83 Z28 No start.
Okay, I'm new here obviously and have done a lil searching but want to gather ideas all in one spot. I just started working on a 83 camaro z28 with the 5.0 CFI. The problem is it is not starting, cranks like a champ but wont start. Will start with starter fluid or by putting some gas in the butterfly valve but once that burns off, it wont continue to run. We have obviously come to the conclusion that it isn't getting fuel. So we need some ideas here. Here are some pictures of it for yall. I remember when my buddy got it back in 08 and it started right up and ran, just needs belts. But it has sat since then so Im sure something is wrong.

if you are sure its not getting fuel or is a fuel related issue then start looking at the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel lines and definitely check the fuel pressure that will give you a better idea with what your working on!!!

Awesome. I mean, Im gonna go under her again today since it will be daylight out and make sure all the hoses and what not are connected so I can rule that out if need be. Is there a gauge you can get to read fuel pressure or what? If changing the fuel pump was a biznatch on my Jeep i can't imagine an older GM

yeah their is a fuel pressure gauge you can buy at any auto parts store and changing a fuel pump on our third gens is basically having to drop exhaust and fuel tank to get to the pump in the tank

Obvious first question is do you hear the fuel pump prime when you first turn the key to on position. If not I would check the fuse and the fuel pump relay first. If you can hear the pump prime check to see if you have fuel to the filter (passenger sider of block behind alternator if still in stock position). I would have to look to make sure but I believe the horn relay is the same so you could swap (odds are both wouldn't be bad). I would say check the neautral safety switch but you can get her to turn over and run with an exterior fuel supply. You could check the harness up to a point but the access to the pump requires dropping the fuel tank.
Another thought is you could have a bad ignition module causing her not to start. These have a tendency to die when sitting mostly from moisture.

there are two problems that often cause a running
crossfire to fail to start after sitting a few years:
-stuck injectors-usually a little tapping in the top of the
injector with the blunt end of a center punch or similar
odject will free them up.
-foam rubber coupler hose in the tank can get soft and
blow out-have to drop the tank for the fix.

Re: 83 Z28 No start.
I am having this problem now too. Took 83 z28 to local chevy dealer cause it wouldn't start and I don't know much about working on cars. They took out the tank to replace fuel pump and found rubber peices, then they replaced fuel filter and cleaned out fuel lines, now putting new injectors. It kind of worries me when they are working on the crossfire injection part of the car if they know what they are doing or not.

Re: 83 Z28 No start.
i was suprized when i changed my fuel pump last year
the foam rubber coupler hose was still in good shape.
My old original pump was still working, but was getting
noisy and losing pressure-took it apart to examine and
found both impellers loose on the shaft, badly worn
motor bushings,deeply grooved commutator,and too
much endplay. The brushes still had about 1/3 life left
though.A single stage walbro turbine pump of unknown
original aplication was adapted and works great
