Off the shelf "programmers" or chips are a fraud. The only way to adjust your tune is DIY. The cost of that programmer could net you everything you need to tune your own combo.

Re: tbi power programer?
no chip can completely make your car run perfect, every engine is different which requires a different tune. So either you buy some chip and hope your car runs halfway decent, or buy the EBL flash and tune the car to run the way you want. I was always thinking you can just do a chip. But now as I get farther into it I realize I will never get by with just a programmed chip. I'll have to do custom tuning.

Re: tbi power programer?
I contacted TBI chips a short while back about my combination and he basically told me he didnt want to tune it. So im like whatever. EBL it is hopefully in the next couple of months
Re: tbi power programer?
EBL is the ****. Been using it a few weeks with no real issues. The service you get with Rbob is great too.
engine runs 100% better and has a noticable difference in power as far as torque goes just from doing some minor changes and my upgrade possibilities now are endless. Cant beat the price when it comes to EBL.

Yeah that's because they know in order to get you close to right you would have to go back and forth with them 100 times which takes time and they won't make that much money off of you. I tried that once years ago with a basic HCI setup and when I took the car to the dyno it was down over 100 hp, had a wot afr of 16:1 and was pinging under light throttle. Got the EBL from RBob and tuned that sucker right up. That car made 341 whp and 387 wtrq. Just start of with small changes one at a time.

Just save the money. It'll put you closer to whatever induction system you plan on going too.

Re: tbi power programer?
A real sleeper/killer system for the TBI base motors is to get the Edelbrock Multiport conversion manifold some 24/35lb injectors and Holley 52mm TBI throttle body. Take the TB and remove the injector pod and port around the opening to smooth the entry. Get the EBL for the car set up for port fuel injection. The manifold is a single plane but you will not loose any torque at all and when you open up the plenum and around the injector hole it will flow enough to support over 500 hp. I have done three systems like this and all of them are making over 400 rwhp. It is VERY simple and will save you time and money. PM me for the details.

Re: tbi power programer?
Ive seen everyone talk about EBL, i personally tuned my TBI quite a few years ago with alot of help from people on here. EBL i dont think was around back then (could be wrong). I got my car running fairly well, but how exactly does EBL work? It sound like its super easy compared to what i had to do, and work alot better. But can anyone give me a quick walk through of how it works, or what you have to do from start to finish.

I wish I could. The website Www.dynamicefi.com has info on it. I havnt used it yet but am VERY soon
Re: tbi power programer?
brian at tbi chips will tune all combos if you are able to log it. i suppose i was lucky with mine. but most of it is stock except exhaust and some mods. a mail order chip will never make it run perfect without logging it. it is just that. a common tune on a chip. even when you get one for any obd1 or obd2 vehicle thru the mail without live tuning you will not get it spot on. learning it is great but it will take a long time since you vehicle is not like anyone elses at all.
Re: tbi power programer?
If you want to tune on the cheap see craigmoates website for the minimum cost hardware. Autoprom comes to mind. Or possibly EBay has as well. Tuning/datalogging program like TunerProRT is $20 I recall. ALDL cable you can make to save a few bucks.

My question is what wiring modification is needed? I would do this with the EBL set up with port mod, will the majority of the factory TBI harness work, or would the entire thing need replaced.

Re: tbi power programer?
That is not the one I was reffering to. That manifold will work for higher horse power applications but is an overkill for anything making less than 450rwhp. The part number is 3501 or 3502 depending on what type of heads you have. All you will need is this manifold kit and a 52mm TB and if are making the power, just call Summit or Edelbrock up to order the right size injectors for your application. You can find a 52mm TBI online for a decent price and then all you need to do is port match the manifold opening to the TBI and around the injector bump on the inside of the manifold. Don't let anyone tell you it won't work or it won't fit cause I have proved it many times over and it passed the smog tests too. The great thing about this setup is you can use a very mild cam that will make power too 5500 rpm then retard the cam 2-6 degrees so you can strech it out more on the top end. You will have a motor that idles great, makes loads of torque and easy to tune yet have the power on the top end to pull very hard. You have to remember that the more of details you take care of the more power you will make with a giving setup.
