I had the car for over a week now. Starting using it as a daily driver 3 days ago. I notice that the car whines when it 1st starts up. I'm wondering what it could be? 92 RS 5.0 160k miles stock engine I think. Also the cat is hallowed out but it sounds like its coming from the engine driver side. Guy that sold me the car said he uses 20w50 motor oil not sure if that also could be the problem. Should I switch to 0w30 for SoCal? Belts are not loose they are on tight.

 

Not sure about the whining sound. Maybe if you could post a video it would help, but the 20w50 oil is ridiculous. I would never run oil that thick.

When you hear it on video it does not sound that loud. But in person it's very loud and happens each time I turn on the car.

 

Remove the belt & start it up. See if it does it, but don't drive it that way.

 

I would be worried about the car having an oil leak if the PO had to put 20w50 in it....

 

I was going to seafoam it and change the oil to a lighter one. Bad ideal then? Came across this https://www.thirdgen.org/serpentine . Smog Pump making the noise?

 

Take your belt off, start the car and let it run for a little bit, not long otherwise you'll drain the battery. Is it still making the noise? If so then it isn't anything running off the belt, if not then it is something running on the belt.

 

After I took it to the shop it does not make the noise any more. They said that who ever installed the starter did not add the shims.
