92 305>350 brag/ask questions

well almost 3 years ago i pulled the 305 TBi outof my 92 convertable with the intentions of throwing in a 350. long story short....

pulled motor,
painted bay
sat for a year
threw in a 305 to make it move (never finished)
trailered from Michigan back to MD
about a month ago i acquired a 350 from my grandfather with a MSD 6a setup. busted *** for 2 days and shes up and running under her own power.

Im beyond STOKED! but i have a few questions. once we got all the little vaccuum lines and timing set right shell start on about the 3rd roll of the motor. better then the 305 did. i believe i put a Jet Chip in it YEEEEEEEEEEARS ago. im running as stock looking as possible. stock closed element. Mid length hookers (hopefully will be switching to longtubes) and will be running a AC and Smog delete pulley just to keep the convienence of running a stock belt. For right now i plan to keep the motor as is. no plans for heads or cam or anything major. i just want it to be a car i can jump in and roll (and plus funds arent available for all that right now)

My question is there anything else i should worry about? ive read the few stickies and other threads about the 305>350 swap and havent found much info other then the Chip and Fuel system to keep up with a 350 the only thing i havent done is i plan to drop in a walbro 255 either when mine craps out or she runs rough from the lack of fuel. But the car runs pretty damn good as it is from what i can tell. so if it just continues to run right. should i just say to hell with it? or could i burn something up unintentionally??

Heres the first time she moved on her own

http://s278.beta.photobucket.com/use...tml?sort=3&o=4

i dont have a y-pipe on. and the trans was a little low on fluid so she wasnt holding real solid. and i had no brakes. was E-brake only

Since nobody seems to care I will listen to you bud, I have posted up stuff like you and have gotten the same results. Did you keep the stock tbi or did you install a carb on it? If you are running the stock FI stuff you will need the electronic spark control module from a 92 caprice with a 350 and 350 injectors are a must too. I would also try to contact tbi chips to have a 350 chip made but you must give him the exact specs of your engine! Is the engine a rollar block or is it a flat tappet style and from what year and vehicle did it come from? I hope its a truck engine off a 88 to 95 silverado because if you slapped a old school 350 within it will not work with tbi. I also noticed that your gauges are not working, did you forget to connect them or are they broken? I owned a pristine low mile 91 RS back in the day and that style gauge cluster was problematic.

gauges.... RPM gaugehas been Fed for years. andnobody can seem to explain why.... ive replaced everything minus the cluster so far.

Speedo. i was a cheap *** and didnt buy a 60$ speed sensor when i swapped Trans years ago so that hasnt worked either. everything else works as it shout tho

THe motor from whati was told came from a 91 camaro. its the 350 tbi. i used everything from that motor. so nothing from the 305 motor wise is in the car. except forthe accesory pulleys.

other then that everything seems to be running fine. like i said i think the Chip that is in the car is for a 350. im not 100% sure

Theres a sticky on how fix it. Just requires clipping two tabs and soldering in a 200 kOhm resistor in its place. The stock resistor for that circuit drifts then fails over time.

Also there was no 91 Camaro 350 TBI. The 350 TBIs are from trucks, but the Camaro 305 TBI's are arguably better since they have roller cams. The 350s got 193 heads and the 305s got 187 heads.

and im pretty damn sure its a 350. i mean yes there is that possibility. itll suck if thats the case. but im pretty sure i saw 5.7 stamped on the block. ill look around next time im under the hood. i was told it came from a 91 camaro. now the possibility it came from a 91 camaro.... good or bad it could have came from a truck before that ya know. im not sure ill check when i get home

Re: 92 305>350 brag/ask questions

what kinda markings are on the heads? thatll be a good indicator. if its a 350 tbi theres no chance it came from a camaro, they didnt have that option. at all. alot of people out there like to lie about those things since theres no way to tell the difference with the naked eye and people seem to think 350s are worth more.... so check the heads if its got the "captains bars" mark youve got a 305.

Well if its a TBI engine it will most likely be a newer 1 pc RMS block that has the 5.0 or 5.7 stamped on it, if he saw 5.7 it's a 350 block regardless of the heads. Probably one of those weird situations where a guy thought "out of a camaro" sounded better than "out of a truck" not knowing any better.

Final consensus was 190-200k ohm resistor was needed. Will cost you some loose change at most to fix. The board is in the dash under the tach. If you take the faceplate off the dash you should be able to get to it easy.

well he said he was "pretty sure", not confident that it said 5.7 and im sure hes questioning that more after reading all this.
