Hypertech chip or stock chip?

Hypertech chip or stock chip?

I have a 92 RS with a LO3, and WCT5. My mods are open element, catback exhaust, pulleys, smog delete, 160º thermostat and fan switch, and a hypertech street runner chip. I run 15.1 (3.42 gears probably help with that). I hear a lot of bashing of these chips without reason. Those with reason say that they richin the AFR and advance spark slightly. Two things I think we would all do anyway. So i am wanting to know.....
1. Is this hypertech chip better for my current setup than stock? I believe it is.
2.Which chip will handle more mods before a custom chip is required?
3. Will either chip handle the lt1 cam mod ? I'm really not interested in buying the equipment and learning to burn my own chips. This LO3 has served me well but will be replaced by an LS when money permits.

Headers and 3" Y are in the plans but I'm doing the suspension right now.

I wouldn't waste my time w/ those aftermarket chips or the cold t stats.
You'd be better off increasing your fuel pressure w/ an adjustable regulator & advancing your ign. timing.

my car ran better and faster with the hypertech chip

eventually you'd want to get a custom chip tuned for your car or some other sort of tuning though. depending on how far you wanna go.

If you can get your L03 into the 14's you're doing very well. headers and exhaust will help your car IMMENSELY

i'd never run less than a 180 thermostat in the car.

I've had the car 13 years. My cousin who I bought the car from put the chip in when he owned it. Said he noticed an improvement. Then it only had a hurst shifter and the 3.42 gears. He gave me the stock chip to the car and I still have it.

Either way, I'm trying to figure out what more I can do to my engine using the chips I got. I don't want to spend a lot on this motor cause that will take funds away from my real goal for the car. Thought maybe an lt1 cam, full exhaust and maybe some tbi spacers could get me in the 14's.

found this reading the stickies. This may be the answer to my questions. When i get my suspension done i think i will try the recommendations of tbichips.com. Looks to be within what i'm willing to spend on my LO3.

Well I started with a bone stock LO3 and did some minor bolt ons here n there then went with a jet stage 2 chip and I noticed pretty much nothing ... But left it there any way then I did a few more bolt ons and NEEDED a better tune so I went with a custom chip from Harris performance @ tbichips.com ... And it DID improve a good bit .. Really ! ... But the mass produced chips I believe are useless ... My custom chip is tuned for full 3" exhaust and headers , 1.6 rockers , hi flow TBI and edelbrock intake , and 4.10 gears with T5 ... And now I have the ebl so the jet chip stock chip and the custom chip are all setting in the too of my closet :-/ what a waste a $ huh ! I shoulda got the EBl flash 4 years ago !

Ill send u my custom chip from that same guy and my jet chip both for 70$ ...
That custom chip I got is only about 8 months old foreal and its for ur exact car LO3 W/T5 .. Just sayin tho ... He's gonna charge u 170$

1991sleeper- sent you a PM about the chips. Could you elaborate on the high flow tbi? Sounds like you are running the setup I'm working towards. So I was wondering if you have any time slips? What do you think of the 4.10 gears? Iplan on running 4.10's with a t56

I have a T-5 and I love the 4.10's .. I still get 20mpg with the ebl flash as well .. I wouldn't hesitate at all to go 4.10's w/T-56.. But if daily driven I'd stick with a 3.90 gear w/T-5
