Performance TBI??
Performance TBI??
What kind of performance stuff can you do to a TBI 350.... I thinking Crane 104224 (.452/.465 214/220), Fast Burn heads & TBI Vortec intake.... or should I just go w/ a Tune Port w/ those same mods only the Scoggins TPI Vortec baseplate?? Which would get more power?which is cheaper? Is there anything you can do to the throttle body inself?
Thanks alot,

I'm getting a little over 300HP (at the flywheel)
with TBI.My reason for staying with TBI was mainly reliability. The original 305 went over 200,000 miles without any fuel injection problems. Also, it's a bunch less expensive than tuned port.
Anyway, my current setup consists mainly of a new crate motor from Autocenter,Crane compucam,Edelbrock Performer TBI intake, ported Turbo City throttle body and adjustable fuel pressure regulator,14"x3" Moroso open element air cleaner with K&N filter,SLP headers,Flowmaster 3" exhaust,3" cat,and a custom chip from Ed Wright at Fastchip.Turned my RS (came with 170hp) into a whole different car!Just finished building 3.73 geared posi, disc brake rear, that I'll be installing in January.
Anyway, my point is, that there's a lot you can do with a TBI, if you don't want to switch to TPI.

Yeah it'a actually 310 HP at the flywheel, with the SLP headers and a single Flowmaster 3" 2 chamber muffler. That's with just the water pump being driven off the crank,no power steering pump, alternator or AIR pump.
Haven't gotten it to a chassis dyno yet to see what it has at the wheels with the accessories and full length exhaust.

That motor is old news. I have ZZ4 cam with 1/6/1.5 GMPP roller rockers and Fast burn heads, Air Gap amifold on there now with the small TB unit. Esentially a FastBurn 385 but with 1.6/1.5 Roller rockers to help the breathing on the intake a bit and reduce friction.
I need a bigger 454 Rochester TB to get the PROM right before I bring this one there, and I thnk. This combo got 412hp with a 600cfm carb, I believe, on the dyno with my headers and muflers, H2O pump, full serpentine package with no alternator/AC load. With TBI, it runs REALLy well up to 4000rpm right now on only the 3rd PROM, but stopping PROM work because it is obvious I need more air AND fuel to get to my 400hp goal. It is a DREAM to drive right now, though. Really crisp, great mileage, really nice. Little Open loop (while warm) leanness on the AF monitor but I forgot to drop the AF by 0.5 (from OEM) all around on the last PROM. That'll cure it, it always does.
I typically get a 21-23% loss on the chassis dyno in my wrangler.

Wow, that's awesome.I bet most people can't believe it's TBI.How long have you been burning your own chips? Is the EGR functional?
So If I ran: Turbo City Ported TBI, Vortec intake for TBI, Crane 104224 cam(.452/.465 214/220), Fast Burn heads w/ 1.5rr, custom chip,K&N open element, Flowtech headers, tru dual exh., shift kit, 3.73 posi approx. how much would I have at the flywheel?? I know there are a lot of variables as far as hp & torque go, just ballpark figures.
Thanks,

I would just use the Vortec heads with that compucam. Plenty good enough if you just add better springs. Won't even need to put in screwed-in studs in that app, IMO.
Noone believes my truck is TBI. When I lift the hood, everyone I have taken for a ride looks for hidden nitrous... The bad part is that it's a Wrangler. High speed handling and braking aren't its finer attributes. Really pisses people off, though, if they decide to race, which EVERYONE does. I have a rather lod exhaust and most people don't suspect a V8. They think "listen to that guys 6-cylinder with that exhaust! Watch this, honey!". I have to laugh!!!
I swear that I may never use a carb again on the street and if I can find a way to use a 7747 to run just the distributor curve with a carb, I'd do that. Just runs that good all the time. Almost too good to believe.
I don't burn my PROMS although I have all the equipment new and in the box, still. I use Tunercat to manipulate, then email the BINs to a buddy/client who burns the PROMs and mails them back to me.
