Happy Third Gen Noob Entering the room!!!!
Hello fellow third gen follower. As the title says im a noob. I have always wanted a thrid gen camaro ever since they came out. And a week ago, i became the owner of not one, but TWO! couldnt be happier. But alas, they need work. one is a roller, the other i have determined a VATS problem, among other electrical probs. (since i found someone went crazy with wire cutters and electrical tape)
So, when i got it, the fuel pump, starter, and electric fan has been hard wired to a toggle switch an push button.
As a mechanic, I started at the top. It wouldnt start. Found fuse for fuel pump blown, fuel relay missing, fan relay missing.
After I made sure it was getting fuel to throttle body, still no start. Poured fuel directly into tbi it started then quit. Thats where things get interesting. With my lucky power probe i found the injectors arent getting ground. So to the internet i went. Post here and else where told me to look at the vats system. I found the connection between the wire from the key to connection under dash severed. The original key cylinder has been changed, but as luck has it, i found a chip key in the passenger seat. I measured the resistance, and ordered the correct bypass for it. Thats where i am now. Gonna install tomorow. i just wanted to share my progress. I hope it will start tomorrow. But if not, where should i do then?
