Re: HIGH IDEL

Define "cold".

1500 rpm cold idle as a fast-idle isn't so far off.

Re: HIGH IDEL

OK, that seems too warm to require 1500 rpm fast idle. I'd be looking at the scan tool to see what the commanded idle speed is, what the idle speed actually is, and whether the IAC is responding properly--and assure that the IAC passage isn't covered in carbon and slime.

Or just buy the software cartridge from the USA, and install it into a local Snap-On scan tool.

Re: HIGH IDEL

If you have a laptop can get an ALDL interface cable and use WinALDL (which is free).

I had forgotten about this option. Read up on it a little bit a few years back. Of late, I've been keep an eye on auctions for older OBD I scanners. Sounds like this might be the better way to go.

Does this duplicate functionality in the EBL Flash?

Re: HIGH IDEL

I did this with http://www.ebay.com/itm/231227363471?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. In an L98. Soldered tx+rx to one wire, ground to ground. Had a 10k resistor sitting around that I had to jump ALDL pin A+B with. Tossed on a usb cable and I used TunerPro and can see what's going on in that ecm.

Edit: Wow, that's a big picture instead of just a link, sorry.

No, the EBL products have a dedicated high speed interface. The ALDL is still active, but the EBL system doesn't use it.

Perhaps I should ask that differently. If I have EBL, do I need to be able to read codes? Or is everything I need for troubleshooting in the interface?

Not separately, the codes are available via blinking the SES/CEL or just looking at the What's Up Display (WUD):

http://www.dynamicefi.com/EBL_Screen...es/wud_000.jpg

The above image is part of this page:

http://www.dynamicefi.com/EBL_ScreenShots.php

It shows much of the EBL's WUD capabilities (and a decent tutorial on it as well). Be sure to see the "Diagnostic Display. . ." screen shot.

Thanks RBob. I had forgotten about that...I read all through the site when I first bought my car.
