HIGH IDEL
HIGH IDEL
HI picked up an 88 firebird with a 305 tbi on cold start up she idles around 1500 rpm then slowly drops to 550.found a split vac hoze changed it idle sat at 550 .left car went back to it started idle 1500 rpm car has dun 65 miles last year .do you think a tbi rebild and change vac pipes etc or am i barking up wrong tree ?
Re: HIGH IDEL
OK, that seems too warm to require 1500 rpm fast idle. I'd be looking at the scan tool to see what the commanded idle speed is, what the idle speed actually is, and whether the IAC is responding properly--and assure that the IAC passage isn't covered in carbon and slime.
Re: HIGH IDEL
THANKS can you recomend a scan tool hear in the uk scan tools dont even list pontiac ! even the snap on scan tools dont list it.so ill have to inport one thanks for yore help i shall have a look at the iac and see whot condition its in the car has dun very few miles in last 5 years between its mot last year and this year it did 65 miles !

Does this duplicate functionality in the EBL Flash?

I did this with http://www.ebay.com/itm/231227363471?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. In an L98. Soldered tx+rx to one wire, ground to ground. Had a 10k resistor sitting around that I had to jump ALDL pin A+B with. Tossed on a usb cable and I used TunerPro and can see what's going on in that ecm.
Edit: Wow, that's a big picture instead of just a link, sorry.

Re: HIGH IDEL
Perhaps I should ask that differently. If I have EBL, do I need to be able to read codes? Or is everything I need for troubleshooting in the interface?

The above image is part of this page:

It shows much of the EBL's WUD capabilities (and a decent tutorial on it as well). Be sure to see the "Diagnostic Display. . ." screen shot.

Thanks RBob. I had forgotten about that...I read all through the site when I first bought my car.
