Estimated HP

Hey guys i will be starting my tune on my engine this week so to start I'm trying to get an idea how much horse power (ball park) that this engine build will produce so I can set my fuel pressure, bpc and the rest. So my current engine set up is a SBC eagle 383 rotating assembly with 906 vortec heads stock from a 98 silverado should be around a 9.9 CR. A GMPP TBI/vortec intake. comp cams extreme energy cam 12-256-4. int .449 ext .456 duration at .050 int. 212 ext. 218 and 112 lobe separation and a 50mm throttle body. So does anyone have a ball park idea of how much power they think this setup will put out?
Thanks so much in advance!!

Hmm. I'm going to say 325 at flywheel once you get it tuned in. A ton of torque though.

That may not be too far off. My 350 with stock Vortec heads and a similar cam (.454", 218 @ .050", 110 LSA) made 290 rwhp. RPM Air Gap and 600 CFM carb and LT headers. Tuned well. Suffered from a weak single 3" exhaust and crappy muffler (in OEM location).

With decent headers and exhaust will be in the 300-330 HP range. I would expect something in the 325 HP and 450 TQ range. Cam is too small and on too wide of a LSA to really get the best torque out of the 383. Intake manifold you are planning to run is highly restrictive on a 350 even bored out to 2" with a 454 throttle body. With that static compression and the super mild cam, I believe you will be in the 91+ octane only range with your DCR as well.

Re: Estimated HP

Hey fast355. yeah i do have the gmpp intake bored to 2 inches and honestly i didnt want to use it but when i put the engine in the car it was the only intake i could find that would clear the stock hood height since it didnt need an adapter plate. the engine was built about 8 years ago and used to be in a c1500 and used to have a carb intake with an adapter. And as for the cam back when i built the engine i did not know about EBL so i was relying on input from TBICHIPS.com and he he told me not to go any tighter that 112 or tuning would be very difficult. so being very novice and ignorant on engine builds at the time i didnt know any better haha. So besides doing the slight head work to get more lift out of the iron vortecs, what cam specs would you recomend looking for if i decide to redo the top end in the future? Also do you by chance know of a better flowing carb intake that would clear the stock hood height when using a tbi to carb adapter plate?
Thanks!
