IAC plug is missing plastic

My IAC plug is missing plastic where it connects to the IAC. It doesn't doesn't appear to be a problem as far as getting a connection, bit once in a while I get a surge at idle. It comes out of no where. It's a 92 RS, with TBI any input would be helpful

Go to a yard and get another plug and splice it in or buy a new one.... use multimeter to verify voltage

My question is does the plastic around the prongs have a function as far as getting a connection?

Re: IAC plug is missing plastic

The plastic connector helps align the inner terminal. Even if it’s busted as long as the latch tab on the connector is there there should be a good connection. It’s easy to unpin and install a new weatherpak connector.

The rubber seal is good, but the latch tab is broken off. I just ordered a new pigtail on ebay.

The terminals release easily. No need to hack the harness unless you have to.

Are you telling me to leave it as it is, and not replace the plug?

I believe he is saying that you should dissemble both and put the terminals/wires from the old plug into the new instead of cutting and splicing the wires.

Re: IAC plug is missing plastic

just watch the letters on the back of the connector so you get the wires orientation right.
