Re: Sending unit

Odd looks like if you look up 86 you get https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...35593&jsn=1395 but if you look up 82 you don't get a sending unit listed. However the same tank part number is listed between 86 and 82... so that is interesting. I would say the sending unit for the 86 carburetor car would work but the wiring and fuel lines may be different so you may have to make it work.

Looks like the GM part number for 82 was one of the following 25003093, 25003095, 25003096

Re: Sending unit

305 crossfire injection. Only thing I found was Hawks Motorsports has someone that will refurbish your old sending unit. Not cheap, though.

Re: Sending unit

WHY do you need a new sending unit? What isn't the original sending unit doing that it should?

Probably same thing my fuel sender isn't doing - indicating the correct fuel level. Mine's full when full and is between 1/4 and 1/2 when empty.

If you do a Google search, several companies come up that can refurbish fuel sending units. I bet Hawks uses one of them.

I'd like to hear it from him, to be sure.

MIGHT be the sending unit. It IS possible.

More likely, high resistance in the wiring between the gauge and the sending unit, or between the sending unit and ground. SOME sending units are known to have the resistor element get contaminated with sulfur compounds; some Techron in the gas tank will take care of that.
