Modifying my intake..

Alright so I have a 1992 camaro rs, it has a 305 tbi and has an extreme lack of power, one of my next purchases is a new intake. I bought a new air filter thinking that the old one was clogged (which it was) and a new one would open it up to a new life. Nope. The car still seems to be restricted and I want to put a new air cleaner on, I have a almost perfect factory intake on there and am looking into putting a circular air cleaner on. (The same ones you would see on carbureted cars and could buy from autozone or advanced auto) To do that there are some lines that ill have to delete but i am worried about the fit of the air cleaner. I have tbi so the air filter has to fit around that... but are there specific air cleaners made to fit tbi and if not are there any that just so happen to fit?

Re: Modifying my intake..

Have you already upgraded the exhaust and set the timing a little advanced (4-6*)?

no I haven’t, I’m looking to buy one in preparation for summer and throw parts on it. I’ll keep the exhaust for this year since I don’t have crazy money to spend but timing? Please help with whatever you know. It’s bone stock minus cooling

Re: Modifying my intake..

Any drop base carb air cleaner will work The IAT sensor can be placed outside the air cleaner it will be fine.. I have a hotter tune chip for a 305 TBI car if you are interested. It gives it optimal A/F ratio, timing, speed limiter delete, delayed torque converter lockup ..etc. Worked really well on my stock L03 seemed to perk it up a bit. I also put a 14lb spring in my throttle body and that helped as well. 3.73 gears,,shift kit, 2200 stall converter and posi-trac were a HUGE seat of pants difference in the car though. 3 in full exhaust I also highly recommend- that was my first mod.If you are interested in the chip PM me....

Re: Modifying my intake..

will it "squeal out"one wheel peel? I tried out a brand new 1990 Firebird Formula,Lo3/t700,and it would lay some rubber and give a 1965 289 2v mustang a good run If your car is really gutless, may have weak fuel pump, plugged cat, coked up valves, etc.

Nope, no one wheel peels. A reminder that I haven't replaced spark plugs nor wires.. but once it gets warm I plan to. Once she gets going shes okay but id say the 0-60 takes a buisness day, not 2-3, but a solid overnight shipping buisness day

Re: Modifying my intake..

Ya,something is wrong-could be several things wrong at the same time, really cutting back on power...plugs and plug wires don't have much effect on power as long as all cylinders are firing when they are supposed to-ignition timing could be wrong also. should squeal out nicely once working as it should

Re: Modifying my intake..

Fix what is wrong with it, instead of buying useless crap.

This car needs REAL diagnosis, and one or more repairs. Not a bunch of bling.

What is the cranking compression pressure of all eight?
What is the fuel pressure?
Will the coil fire a spark-tester calibrated for HEI ignitions?
Any codes in the computer?
When you connect a scan tool, what shows up on the data stream? What are the short- and long-term fuel trims? MAP and O2 sensors working properly? Coolant temperature seem normal? Everything else look good?
Plugged catalyst?
Failed torque converter? If the sprag on the stator lets go, you'll have terrible acceleration but high speed would be normal.
