HELP Low temp fan switch for 1992 camaro

Hi all, hope i'm in the right location. I have a 1992 Camaro Convertible 305 TBI and it has a manual fan switch. I told my mechanic can he fix it to go on automatically at a certain temp and he told me to get a 180 degree thermostat which i did and a low temp fan switch. I can't find a low temp fan switch for TBI can someone help with this, does anyone know what part/part number/brand where i can get a low temp fan switch so can make the cooling automatic

I don't mean to question you, but as i looked up the part, it doesn't show that it would work on a 92 camaro or say its a low temp switch

Re: HELP Low temp fan switch for 1992 camaro

What temperature do you want?

The OEMs turn the fan on at ~220 or so. That doesn't seem "low" temp to me.

Re: HELP Low temp fan switch for 1992 camaro

This is my situation, i told my mechanic that i wanted a tuneup on the 1992 camaro 305 and i also told him that the person i bought it from has a manual switch installed on it and i asked if it can be converted back to automatic. So he told me to get a 180 degree thermostat and a low temp fan switch so i don't know what his intensions are but i asked him why did they put in a manual fan switch and he said probably because it was getting to hot. So i'm not sure what temp it should be

Stock is on at either 228°F or 238°F, there is conflicting information on this.

You would be better off with the stock 195° thermostat.

Re: HELP Low temp fan switch for 1992 camaro

All of the switches that have been suggested will fit and work. But when you get cross-referenced results, they'll most likely just provide matches to the factory temp range, not alternative lower temp products. So just pick the one you like that somewhat coordinates with the thermostat you like.

Has the temp ever gotten so high that you've felt the need to flip the manual switch? The factory temp is high, like has been mentioned, and I'd guess the previous owner just didn't like it that high. But rather than replace the switch with a lower temp one, he spliced-in a ground wire to manually activate the fan if he felt the need. If so, then it's probable that the switch will still activate automatically, like a failsafe, should you overlook the climbing temps and not flip your switch. Of course, to test that theory, you'd have to let the temp get awfully high, so have your finger on the switch, just in case... Or just replace it, like you're talking about.

Re: HELP Low temp fan switch for 1992 camaro

Thanks for all the replies, like i said i'm new at all this. Not sure why my mechanic wants me to get a low temp fan switch(if they make them) not i can't find but you feel the Wells SW555 will bring the temp down to a good level. and i'm talking all the suggestion and bringing them to my mechanic
Would any of these thermostats work for this.

Yes...thats because the search / parts finder searching for the STOCK regalement switch.

as long as the switch fits / functions the same, it will just ground the fan at the lower temp...you are doing something custom so it will not "match" you could even do a different swotch size with fittins / different wiring connector etc.. but thats way more work.....
