Help me defend TBI

i posting a TBI post under Slowmaro1988 on camaroz28.com under the 3rd gen part and i am trying to shed some light over there because they do nothing but rag TBI to death. noone mentions upgrading the system at all just swap in a carb or a TPI they all say and they think that TBI CANNOT make power. go over there and support my post for the love of TBI. they still dont seem to understang the arguement that its not the injection system...its what the injection system is sitting on.

The whole problem is that there are thousands of guys out there with carb and tpi buildups, but we're only finally scratching the surface of what tbi can do so we dont have much ammo. Im gonna keep that post in mind and hopefully when summer rolls around I ressurect it from the dead with some nice results

well if you want some inspiration go to www.corral.net Their 4.6L engines have worse bore and stroke ratios than us 305ers, NO engine aftermarket, and they are kicking our ***. One guy got 12.89 with full bolt ons. No internal engine mods. With the HUGE chevy v8 aftermarket we should be doing a lot better than we are.

the 4.6 litre stang motor has a worse strock to bore ratio than a 305??? what? thats crazy if thats true then there has to be potential in a 305 somewhere. id say with cam, heads, and intake youd have one fast 305

Yes, you would. I would LOVE to get some nice heads, and a brand spanking new intake to 'complement' my LT1 cam swap...but I dont have the cash, nor the time for a full out top end rebuild like that...

i cruise that board a lot. i post under the same handle there too. the only 2 people who are always there who have any real info about tbi are me and chuck!.
some of you remeber when this board had a lot of people bagging on tbi too, and switching to other induction systems, yet now that we have all this info we are beating most of those guys at the track. i think that says it all, we have the info and we are winning the races
the other thing you will notice ove rthere are a lot of dummies that tell everyone to switch to just one type of induction. no matter what the problem is you see the same guys saying" just switch to a carb" or "you can't go fast if you don't have tpi". they are just examples oif the uninformed.
i will pop over there and pick at some peeps though.

later

the 4.6 do have a worse bore stroke combo than 305's
but they have 4 valves per cyl I think

but i think those r the 99+
dont take much to beat the older 4.6's with tbi

just build up and show them
there is a "mechanic" that told me there is NOTHING i can do 2 my TBI....he had a l8 80's tpi 3rdgen 305
i dont go 2 him no more

i keep looking for his car hehe

Yea, I mean how long have people been putting LT1 cams into LO3s? Before there was really no reason to build a 305 - why spend 200 bucks on a cam kit when you could get a junkyard 350 for $400 bucks, throw a carb on there and go - and since the TBI only came on the 305, it got a ****ty rep. If they never made an 350 TPI, then everyone would say tpi sucks, too. How many 305 TPIs do you see in the 12s?

Like I said, this board has really pushed the envelope with the TBI, people like NJ and JPrevost got the tbi down to a science, then just put all the info out there for us to use.

Who would have though you'd see combos like Vortec heads, LT1 cam, Edelbrock manifold, Holley tbi w/gm injector pods? That's cheap and will work together very very nicely.

I really think we'll see a lot of 13 second TBIs this summer (yea, I hope to be one of them - funds limiting... ). Esp. with the vortec head + LT1 cam combo. That's at 14.0 right there with exhaust, gears, and tuning for what... $700 for the L31 kit and $30 for a cam? If you dont get those Vortec's milled you could always take them off a 305 and put them on a 350... its like you never even spent money on the 305. And if you do get them milled, assuming you run a piston with a lower cr, you'll be fine, too.

Im thrilled

That's a good point that some people don't realize. When the 305 has finally seen better days install that top end on a 350 shortblock. In the mean time you can get some use out of the 305.

You are not wasting any cash when investing in a Vortec setup.

By the way has anyone ever noticed the 383 that SDPC has in their catalog built with their parts and the Vortec's with the RPM intake and a Comp Cams XE 268?

407HP and 460 FT LBS!!

I think that engine would make you go
