Pulling a Tas Project...

I have been thinking about doing a LT1 cam swap and intake. I just recently (this week) buying Joe's (Camaroracer1992) NOS system off of him. If you don't remember Joe, he has the 305 TBI that runs a 13.10 on the bottle. Anyways, I figure I need to swap my cam and intake out bad and I want to go with the LT1 cam but I am wondering where u guys usually pick up ur LT1 cams and I don't really want one that has high miles. Also, what intake should I go with? I want to go single plane w/ an adapter but I need something that is gonna work with my stock heads and not have to drill and modify the intake to make it work. Should I just go with the Edelbrock replacement intake for TBI or go with a single plane and adapter? Thanks for the help and I hope this summer I will be the fastest 305 TBI on the board.

I could only find a dual plane intake to go with the center bolted heads. A lot cheaper than the TBI intake though. The TBI intake is 200.00 and this is 140.00 (I belive).

Well I finally took the plung and bought a used LT1 cam off Ebay. It was out of a '97 Camaro. Jon (JPrevost) was nice enought to tell me the cam specs, and IIRC, they were 205/207 dur @.050" -- .447"int./.459"ex. -- 116.5 LSA. Unfortunetly he didn't post the intake centerline. So if anyone knows it, Please let me know.

Anyway, this cam had ~96K miles on it. I got it for $55. I was concerned about the lobe wear. So I measured all the lobes with a dial caliper; first the max height of the lobe. Next the base circle. Then subtracted the base circle from the max height. I then took that measurement and multiplied it by 1.5 (for the 1.5:1 rocker ratio) and the final number was exactly what Jon said.

The worst lobe was on the exhaust side on the #2 cylinder was worn down .001" It was a final lift (after all the calculations) of .4575" And in all honesty, a dial caliper is + or - .001" accurate anyway, so it may be just fine.

I was (and still am) very happy Now I just gotta get it in there.

AJ

cause I said so.

I have 110K on mine. Can't remember what Joe had, but as long as u know what ur doing with N20 and have the safety equipment (air/fuel ratio guage, Blow Down Tube, purge valve, FPSS and a Timing control module, good injectors and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, etc.) Then u should be fine. And I have all that stuff.
Well I finally took the plung and bought a used LT1 cam off Ebay
I will probably do that or just get one from the dealer with no miles on it (if I can do that for a reasonable price). I once bought a differential used and I wasted a 100 bucks on it. So I never buy used parts that wear on a car, like differentials, cams, etc..

Wow, I didn't know there was gonna be so much competition, this is gonna be sweet. NJ Speedster, pimpintheRs,Camaroguy71 all trying to beat Joe's old time of 13.10. This will be fun.

i say go with joes setup but with the cam and heads who knows what you would do id say it would be at least a 12.5 i cant believe he goyt a 13.1 with his setup its all about the juice yo anyways i havent decided wether to get a 350 crate motor or pull as much power outta the TBI 305 as i can...i dont know its a tough choice i might stay with the 305 but then again a nice crate 350 would be sweeeet but then again i can probably get a 305 TBI into the 12s for the price of the motor (thats including all the suspension that ill need anyways) plus there would be alot of downtime swapping motors and all that crap plus im sure theres many many stupid little things that cost an arm and a leg....Hey i think i just talked myself outta that looks like ill be ordering a TBI intake and lt1 cam soon but first i gotta try to find a z28 rear end with at least a 3.42 gear ill probably get a 4th gen rear and use the money im getting from income tax for new rims that way i dont have to run spacers...so ill never be able to rotate tires itll probably go threw 5 sets of back tires before i have to worry about the front :lala:

I am using my Tax return money for either spring break (if I need it) or an adjustable torque arm and sway bars from spohn. That outa get me to hook up real nice with some slicks.

I was only able to hit 15 flat (Can't remember my mph) but I needed to have my throttle body mofified bad (Fuel pressure regulator, ultimate tbi mods part II, injector spacer) so I know I can get into 14's with what I have now and after I get my TBI back from Joe. And with a cam, torque arm, better intake I should be mid to low 14's HOPEFULLY. If not, then I am strapping on the 150 jet on the N20 when I get it on there and blowing it to hell.
