Weight reduction

What happened to the "Drag Racing" Forum?

Anyway I have TBI car that I race and I have decided to remove the A/C. (Never used it since I bought the car in '93) I noticed in the Tech section that the weight is listed at 46# is this just the Compressor or the whole system? (evaporator, condenser, etc.)

I know March makes an idler pulley to maintain proper belt configuration.

I have also seen on eBay, ONCE, the firewall housing for 3rd gens with A/C delete, anyone know a source for these?

Thanks for any help

It is the whole system, there is no way a compressor weighs in at 46#, more like 8#.

I've had the compressor out once before, If that thing only weighs 8# then I need to start working out again... Felt more like 15-20# but when I remove it for good I WILL weigh it and let you know

GM makes that idle puller too. They should still make it, I think it's like $40 or $50 new. That A/C delete box is kinda hard to get. I've seen them go on ebay for $50. You might find them in a local junkyard that still has 80's junkers. Early base model cars would be the easiet ones to find that should have it.

I just got my AC delete heater box with blower motor and fan blade for $68 (includes shipping) from IROCZDAVE, if you go to his website you will see that he has another one for $60 plus shipping. Most of my AC is already out (compressor, condensor, accumulator, and all the external hoses) and the rest (AC box, blower motor, evaporator, and wiring) is going out this weekend. I also have an AC delete pulley which i got from gmpartsdirect.com for about $50 after shipping. Ill be happy to post pics when i am finished.

I did a search in the archives. That is the number that always comes up. Even though it's coming up as a water pump pulley, I'm sure it's the AC delete pulley. I've put stuff in on there and gotten a different name back before too.

Does the idler pulley use the existing mounting points on the aluminum bracket that the compressor is attached to? I just reuse my old bolts to mount it right?

I'm not sure if you can use the same bolts or not, I'd would think so though. Here's a picture of the one on my friends car.

Thats weird about the part number, when i ordered mine it didnt say anything about a water pump pulley. Just email them and they will clear everything up.

And yes, the delete pulley uses the same bolts as the compressor.
