try a lower fan switch, lower tstat, and make sure the mixture is right and if you are still having problems somethings not right. i run my vortec 350 on the stock rad, and have a fan switch and a 180 t-stat and runs at 184 and raises like 2 deg when i push it

Like he said, go to a lower temp thermostat. The stock one is 195* I believe, I went to a 180* and it works very well. Just make sure you get one made out of brass. It cost like $6 or so, but it's accurate within 5 degrees.

Secondly, go get yourself some Water Wetter. It's made by Redline and you should be able to pick it up at any Pep Boys. I can't really explain the chemistry of how it works, it just does. Ask around, it has a very good reputation.

Lastly, if cold weather isn't an issue where you live, you might want to think about switching to a different mixture ratio in your coolant system. Water has a higher boiling point than anti-freeze, so the risk of overheating is decreased. Go to something like 60/40 or 70/30 mixture in favor of water.

my car used to run at 220 all the time...well my fan switch broke so i overheated once and have to rig a fan switch for the time...since then i had to replace the radiator, thermostat, and water pump...with the 180 degree stat i never get over 160 here and thats without the fan..i had a 160 in there and it rarely made it off 100 degrees...seemed like it messed with the car bad tho and got horrible gas milage

If you go too cold, like 160*, yes you will get better performance, but it's minute compared to the hit you'll take in economy.

305tbi I don’t think you were running at 100 deg with a 160, your gauge is prolly messed up if you put in a 160 t stat in it will either be 160 give or take 5 deg and up temps your engine is going to run at. With a 180 t stat it could be below zero out side and I could spray the radiator with water but it will not go below 175 because it will close back up and not let any water from the radiator in the engine.

Just a note guys - i went through 2 new fan temp switch sensors w/my formerly 305 TBI Camaro and the stock setting turns the fan on around 236*ish (c'mon - tell me i'm wrong) because I had ACME Auto and a Car Quest shop confirm that temp for the proper sensor for the car. I spent the $15 and got a sensor that kicks the fan on at 220ish, the low-temp thermostat is next.

TP

You're right. No one belived me either.
I changed the thermostat and then set the fan up to run whenever the engine does (summer only).
Works Great.

Check your timing, if it is to advanced it will cause premature burn and create exsesive heat.
