Do I need the Dowel Pin?

In the LT1 Cam? I bid on an LT1 cam out of a 95 LT1 and its in great condition the guy said but when he went to pull the dowel pin for measurement he scuffed it up pretty good. Do I need the pin? He will replace it for free he said.

Eric...the pin is there for timing. It locates the cam gear in the proper position. That would not stop me from the purchase. They are only dowel pins that can be replaced
