make sure you have about $300. Thats what it takes to do the swap regardless of how much you spent on the cam
Just keep checking the classified board, do it every few hours, you gotta be quick. You can check Ebay if you want also.

But still.. at least 48 hours were spent on it, if not more. Member

i dunno man..7 days is a long time...i take it was ur first time doing a cam swap? i did my friend's 95 TA cam swap in about 13 hrs... took a bit to figure out how to get the damn intake manifold off.... lots of things had to come out... on the tbi cars it isnt hard at all. i did one cam change when i took the engine out of the car and rebuilt it... then a while later i changed it with the engine in the car... 48 hrs? no offense but im glad ur not my mechanic charging by the hour
well being the first time i've been into one I'm just going to take my time and try to learn while i'm doing it. maybe next time It won't take so long, but I'm not in any hurry to get it done. I'm going to do it in my aunts basement (heated, dry, etc) and I'm just going to work on it when I can. I still have my other camaro to ride so Its all good...
and I would love that step by step, or at least a decent rundown of whats gotta be done and when, it doesn't need to be a bolt by bolt instruction manual, but maybe just a take this off, then this, then this, then go beat head against wall when this won't come off... just something like that... hahahahh
thanks a lot guys, your all very helpful

It took me that long because that was the first time I have ever touched an engine... EVER
I double checked everything I did, made sure it was done completely right, and guess what, everything does work, perfectly, the first time
But the next time I do it, it probabally won't take me long at all. I will know exactly what I will need to get and all that other stuff. It shouldn't be as large of an ordeal.

thanks jza, I had never saw that post.
ok so bout 400 bucks should do it.
ok, what about valve train work. every time I mention doing this to anyone that isn't part of this board they start telling me all of the stuff I'm going to have to do with the valve train, springs, rods, valves, bla, bla, bla
needed list as of now:
cam
tools
gaskets
liquids ie: oil, antifreeze, etc.
time
is there anything I need to add to this list, such as valve springs? push rods? is any of this necessary, or just preferable. Am I going to be replacing it in a month or two anyway cuz it breaks or is it something that doesn't really need to be done?
ok, and if there is something that NEEDS to be replaced, what are your suggestions, and what can I expect to pay? I'm sorry to keep buggin you guys so much, but there is so much to think about and I'd like to have everything I need together before I start this, I dont' want to have my car down for too long and I don't have the money to just go out and buy something just at any time.
thanks guys
I appreciate it a lot

Pressurizing the cylinder IS the easy way. The next easiest is to feed a nylon cord into the combustion chamber via the spark plug hole to hold up the valve. The most pita way is to remove the head and do it on the bench. Some people get away with just bringing the piston up to TDC, but I've never tried it that way.
dam that sucks.
I'm trying to find a good deal on getting my heads ported so if I do that then I'll take them off anyway so that solves the problem. but if not, then I guess I'll pump up the chamber. doesn't sound like much fun to me.
how much did those springs set you back...
