How do you install GM's Vacumm AFPR?

When installed the vacuum tube bends right over the right throttle bore. Is there anyway I can cut it down and run a vacuum line away from directly over the throttle bore. If I installed it as is, it would cover to much area over the throttle bore and restrict airflow in. Also, if I use the extra vacuum port on the base of the TBI (the one capped after the open element) will I have enough vacuum to make the regulator work. I was playing around with it on an old TBI unit I have and it seems like too much work to get installed and tuned. Also, it takes a wierd torx bit with the hollow center to adjust the pressure, not to mention that you have to take off the injector pod to get at it. Has anyone installed this succesfully. Any pics or descriptions of how you did this would be a great help. If not I might just return it and get the turbo city or jet one. I have also heard that the spring in this partucular unit is to stiff and can't be backed down enough for a 305.

You might could use the stock 305 spring and rotate the housing 180degs so the tube would be pointing to the rear. I'm sure you'll get more and better responses than mine so will just have to wait and see.

I carefully bent the tube a little straighter. Then I routed the hose around the inside of the TBI air cleaner spacer and through a hole I dirlled at the front. I used a dep socket to bend the hole so the tube went through with it remaining flush to the interior of the spacer. Yes that is the vacuum source to use. Yes the stock spring is too strong and the stock TBI non-adjustable fpr spring is too weak. I stock a great replacement spring for this unit. It runs $5 including s&h. E-mail me if interested of if you need more info. I'll dig through my files for a picture of how I routed the hose. Lon

For the keyed torx bit, take a small screwdriver and pry on that pin. Move it back and forth until it breaks off. Then the standard torx bit will work.

I cut the tube off and zip tied the vacuum hose to it.

I was able to use my 9c1 spring and the $.25 mod to make it work.

a few bad pics on my website @ http://notdadsw41.home.att.net/tbi.htm

I will try and bend the tube a little. I didn't want to play with it to much before I heard from some poeple who have it. I am glad to hear that I can use that vacuum port on the tbi. It would be nice if that tube could swivel to face away from the throttle bore. I am interested in a spring Ionsal and you should have an email this evening when I am not at work.

I have a few more qusetions on adjusting once installed. Did you guys have to take it off numerous times to adjust before finally gettting a setting that seemed to work. Any rules of thumb I should follow?

I did take it off several times to adjust it. Mostly because I couldn't get the pressure range I wanted with either of the 2 springs I originally had. But it is 5 minutes tops to make a pressure adjustment. Between the new spring and the included instructions it should be much easier. Lon

I agree with Lon. It's 5 minutes max to make an adjustment. PROVIDED that you don't damage the gasket for the top of the injector pod when you take it off. I've wasted those so often that I have quite a few complete rebuild sets laying around, minus that stupid gasket of course....

I turned my tube 180*. I had to grind a little tab off the flange to make it clear.
