383 oil Pressure

Who Knows For Sure???

What is the absolute lowest in-gear idle oil pressure you can have w/o fear of ceasing up your motor, I have up to 55 or 60 psi when it is cold while idling in gear, but when hot(220-230) it falls to around 40-45psi when idling in gear. alot of people say that it is a little too low!!
Does any one else have a big cam motor that runs around 220-230*?? is it safe??
Should i be worried about my motor or am i just really parinoid??Please help if youve been in my situation.

A few things to consider. 1) How tight was the motor built 2) What type of oil pump are you running and 3) What type/weight oil are you running?
My initial reaction is...
Alot of people don't know what the hell they are talking about.

LOL Don't freak out... you are WAAAAY safe! Mine used to drop to about 25psi A rule of thumb is 7-10psi for every 1000 rpm.

Yep, what they said, a good rule of thumb is 10psi for every 1k rpms.
As far as your temp, that's a little warm than I like to be.
What kind of cooling system are you running? I like to keep my car between 180*-190*.

Thanx for the help guys, one of my friends today said that my motor is getting hot and my oil viscosity is breaking down (by the way its 10/30 oil), thats why my pressure is getting low. I dont know much adout the inside of my motor because i bought it pre built.
for cooling i have a stock water pump(i am pretty sure)160*thermo, aftermarket alum radiator, Racing electric fan.

What brand 'racing' electric fan? How many CFM? 10 psi per 1000 rpm is all you need.

My 383 idles 750rpm @ 25psi of oil @ 180 deg in gear....

I use Kendall 20W50......switching to synthetic this yr BTW

Your oil pressure is very high for 45psi in gear. Is it a fresh motor?

I run 10w40 sythetic and when the motor is cold it idles around 50psi... once the motor warms up tho it drops down to around 35 or 40 at idle and stays pretty constant unless I get on and it jumps right up to the point where it goes past the 60 on the stock guage.

Yea, my motor is pretty fresh (about 2500 miles fresh).

Get this guys......
I have been tracing my 92 RS TBI that got totaled. I found out today that it was crushed and ground up with my mega-shifter, Elite Valve Covers, Ultimate TBI mods etc. I know that the ladys insurance co paid me for those parts, but i was hoping to buy the car back to part it out but the company wouldn't sell it to me, they said i'd have to buy it from salvage. well i was too late,
