Need help with cruise control

It is all there but doesn't work. What is a common problem (other than fuse) with these. I have an 89 RS 305 TBI.

I have seen a few switches fail in turn signal lever assemblies.
Troubleshoot it before replacing, as it is not a "1 hammer" job.
Too many home improvement episodes, huh?

Turn Signal / Cruise.

If your turn signals, windshield wipers, and cruise don't work....
You need to check the harness and find the plug that hooks that up under the steering column.

I don't know if he ever fixed it, but I've got a prob: no cruise control. I've got the same car, "everything is there" - and I've checked fuses... My wipers and signal work, so do my other interior switches like door locks, defrost, rear hatch... and my radio...

any ideas where to start?

James

The most obvious cause is usually a vacuum leak. Check the rubber hoses, they dryrot like crazy, especially in older cars like our beloved thirdgens. After that, there's the switch on the steering column. The fact that everything else on that switch works doesn't necessarily mean that the cruise control switch works as well. There's a tech article on this site that tells how to check to see if the switch works or not, and it's written pretty well.

And check the release switch on the brake pedal arm, too.

Where do you look for that article, seems like everyone is having problems with cruise control.

When I bought my Trans Am, the cruise didn't work. So I figured, fine, that just drops the cost. Turns out that once I went to fix it, it was the most obvious fix of all. I just had to clip the cable back on the throttle and that was that!
