Board "SEARCH" feature having problems?

Is anyone but me having trouble performing searches on the board software? Regardless of how I try and how simple I make the criterium, I cannot even connect to the server to get the "no results found" dialog. I simply get an immediate an error message that the server is not available. Is it me? What did I do to it this time?

I don't know Vader, the board seems to be doing alot of things lately. When I talk to Dirk I'll remind him if he doesn't already know.

Vader,

i haven't had any problems with the board's search feature, and i've used it quite a few times lately in the past few days.

i may not post much, but i do a lot of reading here.

Not working for me either. Must be a moderator thing.

Check that... its apparently a Netscape thing, as I can search just fine using IE.

I used it a couple days ago. Though there seems to be a huge gap of missing posts, from a certain time frame that don't show up.

O.K. max, just for you, I'll try IE to log in and search. I logged out on the PC in my garage and deleted all cookies just in case one was corrupted. Now I can't even log back in as myself. Maybe this is a hint?

O.K. So it works with IE 5, or at least I can log in. Must be my Nutscrape setup.

What baffles me is that it worked a week ago ¿? Then again, it doesn't take much.

EDIT: I guess it was time to "upgrade" to NS 6.2, since it seems to work just fine with the board software. I had been running NS4.7, since I like the more proven, less buggy software. Oh, well, I guess I just got "progress" rammed down my throat....

Max,

If you don't have other access, I wouldn't advise logging out or deleting cookies until there is a resolution of the situation.

Just to add, I have problems, too.
I run IE 5.5, and sometimes there will be no results, as Vader described, or sometimes I will get threads that once clicked on, will become "Unable to find page."

I have searching problems with both IE5 and Netscape 4.7. And now I have to log in every couple of minutes when I used to be able to just refresh my control panel forever.

This sounds awful familiar....https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hlight=cookies

One for Vader......"Just another aspect of the MicroSoft virus, er, programming. Dump MS Internet Destroyer and use Nutscrape, and your problems will likely go away. Someday, MicroSoft might be as good as some of the older versions of Nutscrape - maybe."

Riley,
Yup. It looks like I stuck my foot in it that time, or just spoke too soon. I wasn't having any problems until about a week ago. Same IP, same access software, same machines.

I've done a virus scan with the same NAV that I've used "forever" with nothing unusual reported. I tried clearing the browser cache, deleting old board cookies, clearing out all other cookies, cleaning out TEMP files, reloading the old version of the browser, etc. No luck. Just another hiccup I suppose.

I DID have someone email me with a virus attached through the board "moderator" link about a week ago, but NAV caught it right away on my machine. I wonder if the server AV software didn't....

Riley,

I've been burned enough to learn the hard way. I do Windows directory backup burm of a ROM every month or so just for grins, or whenever I install another large application (like an Autocad upgrrade, etc.). CDs are about 50¢ apiece if you don't shop for bargains - it just isn't worth the problems NOT to do it.

Wanna know what's strange? I'm on a DIFFERENT MACHINE than just a few minutes ago, using NS 4.7 my old IP access software, and and the SEARCH and board options seem to work just fine now. WTF? Maybe Dirk has been busy behind the scenes?

I'm not saying that all is calm within the Force, but I'm also not looking in either end of a gift horse...

The last time I invoked the "Dark Side" was May of 2000, and we all know how long the board was down after that Black Friday.

O.K. - More weirdness. I'm back in the garage on the "old" machine, with the old software, and everything seems to be "normal" and fully functional with the original software. My IP access software "new and improved" version has its own browser built in, kinda like AOL. How sucky is that? So I'm back on the tried-and-true older version. Just becasue it's new doesn't mean it's progress. Just ask Firestone.

Max,

Try to log into your User Control Panel. If that works, it should be safe to log out and back in - hopefully. I don't like the look and feel of NS 6 either (friggin' resource hog), so I'm using 4.7 again with no problems - so far.

In the timeless words of the Gilda Radner character, Roseanne Rosannadanna, "Never mind..."

Dirk has been playing around with stuff. I bet thats what fixed it. I got home last night and the search feature was working fine for me again. Didnt try logging out yet, but I figure it'll be ok anyway.

I took care of all my computer probs the other day. I got ticked because I was doing a search and couldn't come up with squat. About that time, a certified letter in the mail showed up from the D.A office saying I owe $900 and then my air conditioner went caput.. I came back to attempt a search one more time and nothing would show up, so I kicked the dang thing. Now I can see all that stuff in my computer, busted the case right off. Now the odd thing is everything works perfectly

I was having problems with the search feature the other day but now they are gone wish I didn't kick the thing now

Yup, Dirk was working on it last night, but go to the main page and read what he posted for people having these log in things. Improvements have also been made to the Tech Data.
