Timing?
Timing?
Guys, I'm very frustrated and need some help, I'm sure most of you know that I have an 86 Camaro with a 350. I purchased an EPROM for an 88 350 and timed it to 6 degrees advanced. It ran excellant, but when I truned the car off, it wouldn't start for atleast 5 to 10 minutes of letting it cool down, and it doesn't even heat up past 180 degrees. So I changed the module, coil, and alternator and still the same thing. It will crank very slowly, but not start. Then when I finally got it running, the car all of a sudden started to hesitate and I blew a damn fuse again for the instrument cluster. Could this be caused by AutoZone giving me the wrong alternator, could the battery being low cause this, or could the timing for an 88 350 TPI Camaro be different than an 86? Please help, I'm desperate at this point!!!!!!!!!
Nevermind guys, I did a little research and found out the alternator was wrong. The 88 requires a different alternator, which in turn requires a different internal voltage regulator. From what I've gathered the 86 alternator was either feeding too much voltage or not enough and caused the hesitation and even the fuse to blow. I don't know about the timing though, but I'll try to work with it. If there are any suggestions, I would still appreciate them. thanks...
That's one of the problems, it hesitates, seems like the ECM is pulling time out because it will have the occasional backfire. I've double and even triple checked the timing, 6 degrees advance in drive at 650 rpm, and I have the TPS at .55 volts. Now this didn't happen right off the bat, it ran great until I turned the car off. 5 minutes later I tried to start it and it would turn over but not fire. I already changed the alternator, coil and module. Once I let it sit for a bit, the car starts, but then it started to run like I said for no reason and it blew the gauge cluster fuse. I have another thread going, and one of the guys said to check the ground wire behind the passenger side head. There shoud be two grounds and a ground strap. It's a start atleast, I thought I tried everything else.
Does the '88 EPROM have VATS?

That's a good question, I could give you the part number, but honestly I don't know. I was told that the 89 had VATS and the 88 didn't, but I don't know. Here is the part number of the EPROM I have:
16083268
This is for an 88 350 TPI with 3.27 gears.
Thanks for the help

sounds like a starter solenoid....but i don't know y it would jsut crop up....usally it is after you install headers or something that runs too close and heats it up and you get "heat soak".
