anyone use SI2000?

I was looking through the SI2000 (GM Service Information online site) and I was very diappointed. Anyone here use it on a regular basis. I was hoping to find a wealth of information and it may in fact be in there it is just hard as hell to navigate and weed through the crap. I was thinking it would be something more like the :hail: Helms manuals :hail: Do dealerships actually use this? Seems like it would take forever to look something up when it would take 2 seconds to look it up in a box.

Though it really only has 96+ stuff I was hoping to get some good detailed info on 4th 98+ camaro parts. Does anyone know really good sources of tech data and specs and possibly part numbers for 4th gen camaro stuff? Sometimes that stuff ends up being cheaper and will still fit a 3rd gen.

I am just trying to get as much tech data I can about almost anything I need so I can transfer it to my laptop and keep handy with me in the car. Like parts catalogs in PDF and the camaro illustrated Parts cd is awesome. Any other good stuff I could pic up around? I used to have the GM Performance Parts catalog in PDF but that was a couple years ago. Ooops this post got long...

Do you find it easy to use? Are you using the CD version or the online? Maybe i just didnt spend enough time searching through it to find valuable information.

si2000 is much easier to use than the old esi program. lots of information avaliable too, but like you said service information is only avaliable for late model cars. thirdgens are too old and all you'll find is recall and tsb info for them.

be warned that if you're installing a copy of the program locally, you'll want at least a pentium 3 class system with 128MB ram and a few gig free of harddrive space. installer uncompresses and copies contents of 5 cdroms to local drive and also installs a copy of the apache webserver that runs every time the machine is started.

kind of off topic, but i was looking at some fourthgen wiring diagrams. appears as though a fourthgen firebird headlight door module could be used in 1987+ thirdgen birds that use the 2 wire headlight door motors.

anyone ever retrofitted a 4th gen headlight door module into a thirdgen? (it's not plug and play and would require splicing wires together)

I was looking in it for 4th gen info and some other newer Chevy vehicles. It was the webversion. I dont have the CDs. Wish I did though. That way I could reference it out in the car.

i get to use both, it's rather easy to work with until you get into the older models.

I just graduated asep, SI200 is okay, but I prefer a good 'ol book it is just easier to flip through to find info, but the cool part is that you dont have to try to find the correct book. anyway.... 1991tealRSt-topGuy-has your instructor showed you the back door to SI2000 on the net?, if not ask, it can be handy in a pinch
