the hoses go from the power steering pump, to the steering box. they are high pressure hoses, and may only leak when you are turning....Start the car and inspect this area...have a friend inside the car and move the steering wheel left and right..as you look for leaks...the fluid will look like tranny fluid. If it is a hose, you will have to replace it, they run about 20.00 new at napa.

I didn't see any of the hoses leaking. Would they leave a puddle on the ground? I had to add more fluid again today. so im assuming is leaking pretty good. where else should i look for a leak?

Like I said, you need to have a friend turn the wheel while the car is running..while you look for leaks...if it isnt the hose it must be the resevoir....those two places are the only place it can come out of...hoses...resevoir.....The car has to be running to create pressure..while the wheels are turning.....try this and see what happens.
I guess the steering box itself could leak, but Ive never seen it. As for a puddle....it most likely is leaking only when being operated...Im sure its a very small leak.....big ones a VERY easy to find.

I couldn't tell ya. Most people just install a rebuilt steering box and call it good. Those are significantly more expensive than a power steering pump or hose. You're probably looking at $200-$300 for a replacement, depending on what you get and where you get it.
You are going to want to take care of it though. if the PS pump or hose goes, you usually just lose your power assist. If the box goes, the steering can practically lock up on you. I know, I had that happen--took BOTH people in the car to turn the wheel.

junkyards my frind, junkyards you can get it done there for cheap, just make sure that they don't lieve you steering weel crooked. i got mine fixed at a junkyard for 200 but i didn't notice that the steering weel was crooked untell it was to late
but this was on my dads truck and i believe that in our cars you can only put all the steering parts on in one perticuler order so they won't end up that way, but i am not sure
but if you get it done at a junkyard just look at your steering weel and two front weels before you lieve and make sure that they are strat.

well if you buy a steering box you might be able to instale it yourself but if you try to get the pit men seal raplaced it is labor that is going to coast you more money so it would be better and cheaper to have the hole thing changed

Changing the steering box is a pretty frustrating job. That damn thing is heavy and hard to maneuver into such an awkward place, much less get the bolts started. If you have someone to help you it's not that bad.
Worst part is trying to get the old pitman arm off. Usually it's pretty well attached. Last time I did it I just bought a new arm after beating on it for three days.

so its probably best just to get a new steering box? think i should try to pick one up at a junk yard for cheaper? Then i just will bring it to a shop to get put in? sound like a good idea?
