5 Quarts right??
I did an oil change. Drained all the oil out. Put on the new filter and put in 5 quarts of Mobil 1 10w synthetic. If I pull out the dipstick, dry it off, push it all the way down and pull it up, it says im over. Its a decent amout too

I did the oil change a while ago (not too long ago). Sorry if I sounded like I did it today.

5 qts should make it read right at full after eng has been run and shutdown.
Sure it was 5 qts ya put in?
Maybe someone has swapped dipsticks on ya.
Try a dipstick from another Camaro that is known to be accurate.

What filter did you use?
If it's the short one (PF25) then 5 quarts may be a little too much; if it's the long one (PF35) then it will take a little more than 5.
EIther way, you're not going to cause any problems. I would guess it's less than a half quart high on the stick, which isn't anything to worry about. A whole quart or more extra would be a bad thing.
And like the other guy said, the dipstick isn't exactly a precision instrument....

mine does that too, its not TOO much above, but its no at the line, maybe half a centimeter above..
atleast u didn't look at ur haynes manual that tells u to use 5.5 quarts.. then it goes really far above
