lucas tranny additive..
lucas tranny additive..
It says its supposed to free up valves in the valve body. as well as protect better and whatever.. I know that Lucas oil additive is like the only recomended additive for oil. so is it any good for trannys?
If your trans has 150,000 miles on it and has never had the fluid changed and is about to die then it might help. If you change the trans fluid and filter every year and use synthetic fluid in it like I do then no it will not help. Got 147,000 miles on the original trans with 100 passes on drag radials and it still shifts good.

Its like their engine oil additive, except its red. I dont know that I would use it in an auto tranny with that low of miles unless you are only putting a little in. Its much thicker and will make the tranny shift harder but a transmission gets its lubrication because the fluid is so thin... might starve a few areas with the thick fluid in there.
Its probably some dirt or debris in the valve body. Best way to fix that is to clean it.

I was supprised that Lucas oil additives actually work, but if people had used synthetic oils in the first place there would be no need for oil additives.
I would suggest using K&W trans/PS stop leak and tune up. Its quite a bit thinner then Lucas and it does a good job freeing sticking valves and breaking up debree in the valve body.

We've recently put Lucas products in our store. I was quite skeptical about them at first. I've put the tranny additive into a few vehicles. Was quite surprised by how thick the stuff is. I've noticed no ill effects or hard shifting from it yet. My boss just got his 57 t-bird out of storage and the front pump seal started leaking. Added the lucas and that stopped right away. He also said the car is shifting better than it ever has. He rebuilt the tranny himself 10 years ago and said it never felt right. But seems to now.
They also make a ps stopleak. Our county maintenance shop swears by it. But my dad put it in his truck and the leak got worse in a hurry. The next day the steering box wouldnt hold fluid at all. So I dont know what to think bout that stuff.
