what valve springs to use with cam

im getting either a XE262 or XE268 for my 305 and am curios as to what valve springs to use. i know that most of them wont fit in an unmachined 305 head, but which ones would work with out getting heads machined?

I hear the 268 is a bit much for a 305, not sure though.

I got the same cam, and they told me to get the CCA-981-16 springs from Summit. $57. Good idea to get the locks and retainers to, if you get the K-Kit I think it's called you get the cam, lifters, springs, locks, retainers and a double roller chain. With this kit, you're pretty much getting the double roller for free, rather than buying things separately.

The springs Mark mentioned will fit in an unmodified head.

His advice is good, definitely follow it if you are doing this to a virgin motor, or one whose parts you are unsure of, or one with replacement stock parts.

the guy at the speed shop said i wouldnt need new springs with 262. he said stock ones would be ok. the engine was rebuilt last summer i guess they are pretty fresh. he also suggested to use the 262 because i would have to spin my motor pretty high with the 268 and i would lose a lot of low end torque.
