305 vs 350ci

im pretty dissapointed about my stock 305 cuz its not as fast as i thought and it only has 205 hp
the 350 has 245 hp and also i have an auto tranny so that makes it worst

i dunno what to do!!!!!

am i gonna be able to kick mustang asses with a 305?
cuz i cant except v6 mustangs
i only want it for racing my friends and cuz i love the exterior

should i sell my 91 z28 before making mods to buy a 350 91 z28 or should i put some mods and keep the 305??????

how many mods would i need to kick mustangs asses???????

thanks

i haaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttteeeeeee those ugly damm pussie weak mustangs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of the time I would say get a 350 car. But I've seen pics of your car and it looks to be in great shape. If you just want something to beat some Mustangs, you'll be fine spending some $ on the 305.

First get headers and a cat-back. This is the weakest part of your motor. I'll let you listen to my exhaust when you come Sat and decide for yourself if you like it. That right there will run you about $500-600.

Next I would get gears and a higher stall TC. That will run you about another $600 just for the parts. But will drop your 1/4 times probably 1 full second.

I'd say with the exhaust and the gears/TC you'll be at very low 14s which will even take most stock newer GTs (driver depending).

But we can talk more about it on Sat. c ya there.

I have a 91 z28 with a 305 and I kick mustangs *** every day. My friend put like $6000 into his motor on his stang and i beat him when my car only havd a few mods. Get some gears and do a little morot work and the 305 will suprise most people.

Headers and catback would help. Hooker is a great exhaust system! If thats the TPI then go with a 3.42. If its a TBI and you do mostly close driving I would say a 3.73. Either get some better heads or port and polish those. maybe some 305 Torquer heads (about $700 with everything needs to install). get a better torque converter depending on gears and driving. after that go with some small bolt-ons such as power pullies, air foil, larger throttle body, K&N filter. The heads and exhaust on the 305s are killer so I would upgrade those asap.

Just my 2 cents though!

PS. 14 flat is VERY easy to get and that should take MOST stock and mild stangs.

Stop the . $6k into a Stang motor would make the car run at least 12s, I'd say 11s easy.

I still think you can find a nice Z with a 350 for not much more than the 305TPI. Read the boards: almost everyone recommends not wasting time with a 305 when you can have the bigger engine. Then you can do the same mods as you want and go even faster. I know when my TBI craps out, I'm shopping for a 350.

Well it is bs as much as you think so. He will even admit it to you. It definatly didnt run anywhere near the 12's tho. It had forged crank, pistons, edelbrock intiake, edlbrock carb and cam, he did a auto to 5 speed swap, had 3.73's just like I did but it just wasnt fast I dont know but im not b.s.ing you. I have never lost to a mustang and I dont care what you guys who hate 305's say because I beat a 70 chevelle with a 350 buy about 20 carlengths. he couldnt even get out of the hole so am just trying to tell the kid with the 305 that they are not slow like everyone says as long as you do them right.

Well, if it was stock, I hope you would beat it. Stock they had only like 170hp or so. Not too mention those cars weren't small.

The chevelle had a high rise intake with a 2bbl carb(dont know why you would do that to a car like that) and it had 4.11 gears. i think thats it.

That makes sense, 2bbl with 4:10s.

Hey Guys..............well i just got a 2k2 Silver GT............no flame please...............but i dont think you can beat a 2002 GT........cause in my town there is a 92 Camaro police edition.........w/ about 2000 worth of performance parts..........3.73 gear, exhaust, header, cold-air, shift kit...........and he raced a 97 Stang GT w/ 1 chambers, 3.73, and cold air.....................and I have beat that Stang about 1 1/2, and the 97 Stang beat the Camaro by 2 cars. Yes, Camaros are awesome.......and i will be getting myself a 98+ Camaro SS someday..............but right now the Stang is fast.

i know that the old ones were slower, i only showed that how a modded 305 cant keep up w/ a stang man, we dont need to get all technical and stuff, and flame people cause they are just trying to tell something, and i have beaten a lt1 camaro and a lt1 ws6 trans am too, i know that a 2002 camaro is faster, i dont care who drives what if its fast its fast, i dont flame people but a race is a race, and i was gonna get a new camaro ss but we couldnt find one so i had to settle w/ a new gt 5-speed, nice car and all, lots of power for a lil 4.6 motor.

The original poster wanted to know if a modded 305 could beat a stang. I was just trying to show that a modded 305 could keep up with a stang. Sure, if you had heads, cam, intake, nitrous, gears you would more than likely beat me, I would expect that. But how often do you run into stangs, or any car with that much work?
As for my car no times on it yet, as work was just completed this summer. Right now I am burning chips for it and should have one that could run the car decently in a few weeks, then it will see the track.

BWAHAHAHAHA....

$6000 worth of what?!?! $6000 in a 302 would make it a damn missle. MINE, repeat, MY Mustang...not my friends or my cousins...runs an 11.96 @ 105 mph. That's about $4000 worth done to the entire car, used heads and intake.

Back to the original post. The 305 is fine. "Field testing" has shown that with a set of vortecs and an LT1 cam you'll be in good shape. Biggest of all, get into PROM tuning so you can tailor everything how you want it. That way you can keep your nice paint and body and build something to be proud of...IMO
