Aren't they basically the same. I don't have any PS fluid here but I have some ATF...

I've been using ATF in power steering forever. At least Dextron, I don't know about Type F, etc.

My mechanicly challenged brother ounced put ATF in the brake reservoir. The only words from my mouth were: "So, how much did they charge to flush, & replace all the seals?"

I always use ATF for power steering fluid and I have never ran into any problems. Don't use brake fluid though, because brake fluid will not withstand high temperatures like ATF will, and it also does not lubricate as well. I wouldnt use Type F fluid however, because it is known to eat through rubber, and we have rubber PS lines, and rubber seals in the steering box.

Don't do the opposite, i.e. Power steering fluid for ATF.

I agree with Kevin. I have used tranny fluid in power steering pump for years never had any probs.
