my dream ... and the way to get there

With my 1987 z28 camaro I would like to be able to run 13's with the least expenditure of cash possible. I have a 305 in my car.

heres the poll

You can run 13's on your 305 if you get the right parts. You don't need a blower to achieve that.

Yeah, build your 305 ! Was the "283" never built or something ? Or any past small blocks for that reason.....has to be some similarity( bore -stroke). I bet it's been done before when the 305 debuted.....

all your posted options up top are way overkill for 13s and not all that budget minded, especially the turbo

Axle/Gears: 3.70 9-bolt
Not too hard
exhaust(headers, catback)
cam (maybe LT1 cam)
better heads( 305 TPI, vortec L31, maybe even port the LO3's)
intake manifold(weiand stealth with TBI adaptor)
GEARS( especially if you have an auto trans)

And after all that a new chip would do wonders.

That could be done for far less than $2000 and you would still have money left over for suspension work (sub frames, lower contol arms, panhard, etc..)
I have seen this asked quite a bit and I'm sure a search for this topic would do you some good.
I assumed the 305 you had was the LO3, if its a TPI, well then you are much closer and would need less perhaps. Though those TPI parts are expensive.

Hmmm, I would just buy a 350 if you have the know how of working on engines.

GM Goodwrench 350 $1290
comp cams 268xe $180
headers and cat-back $500
port the heads on it $100 or so ??

that will take you to the $2k mark.
Or you could spend it on the tired 305.

also, what gears do you have? 2:73s most likely. auto trans? a higher stall TC would help a lot for another $300 or so.

oops, forgot about your induction problem, is it the LG4 motor?? or L03?

Not exactly sure, I can take pictures since they tell more truth than I probabbly speak. Its the original 305 v8, has a 4 barrel carb on it. I was thinking that If I put an LT1 in it that would give me the 350. And It would give me the ability to work on the engine while i still have something drivable.

I have the 4 speed overdrive automatic transimission, even tho when I went to change the transmission filter and fluid when I recieved the car, all the fluid was black ...

I was thinking about putting out the cash for one of these
And then doing the work on it that I need to out of the car then somehow magically find someone with an engine hoist and stand to put it in with me.

But Would this work for the 350 you guys are talking about?

Prolly would have been best to have left that fluid in there. I wouldn't count on the tranny lasting too much longer, specially when you put a higher hp/tq motor in the car.

I thought that having black fluid for transmission fluid meant that it had not been changed in a long time and it was from the fluid being burnt. The car drive much better after changing it .. im confused again heh

You're right, it was from not being changed much. Actually, it may have been best to leave it, if there were a lot of metal shavings in it.

Nah I didn't see any metal shavings, nothing collected on the bottom of the pain either.

See I thought I had a transmission problem, until i realized it was a bog problem. I just wish my secondaries worked correctly so that i could push the pedal to the floor without the car dieing on me rofl
