Gas Tank Replacement..NEED HELP ASAP

I got the old one out and the new one ready to go in , what do I do about the strips across the top of the old one, they're like deadening material or what??!?!? Should I put the new one in without them? I can't reuse the old ones....

Also, the white wire at the fuel pump was bare about a 1/4" back from the connector, is the normal? I know it was like that.

Please help, I need to get this done before it gets dark out!

Thank you,

I wouldn't install it without the rubber material. It will make alot of noise if you don't have that stuff. I don't know what else it might be for but that is probably the main reason. As far as the wire I don't know.

Well, 87WS6 I thank you for your help, sincerely.

The tank is in, if anyone happens to read this post, please let me know if that bare wire is normal.

Thanks,
Jeff

Not normal, sounds like the insulation may have shrunk back, try putting some heat shrink on it.

i would use some shrink tubnig also, or electrical tape to cover any exposed wire, and for the rubber its a anti-squeak pad so when your driving the tank moving around it doesnt make much noise.

Well, it's in and I'm assuming it's been like that. I really don't want to have to pull that back down.

Here's a pic of the wire.

car bogging
hesitation
fuel pressure fluctuations
car just not running right.....

with a bare wire like that and hitting bumps in the rode eventually it is going to fray out completely and you are going to have to fix it.

you also may not be getting full voltage to the pump with a wire that like which will cut down on how much fuel your pump flows
