Would Thread lock with teflon be an acceptable alternative to LocTite PST?

I am getting ready to bolt up my heads, and in a previous post, LocTite PST was recommended for the head bolts and intake bolts. Well it seems as though no one in Delaware sells the stuff, so i'm forced to look for an alternative. So what about this thread locker with teflon, made by versachem?

thanks for the help,
Eric

I would not use any kind of thread locker on head bolts.

Do you have NAPA, Auto Zone, CSK, or Pep Boys? They all carry the sibstance in question.

I called napa, they said they've never even heard of it, i went to Advanced auto, they didn't have it on there shelf and when i asked if they carried it they looked at me like i was retarded. I've been trying to call pepboys all morning, but no one is answering the phone. Guess i'm just gonna have to make the trip all the way up there.

What else besides loctite PSt can be used?

EDIT: Just got a hold of Pepboys, they only have Loctite red, blue and green, no PST.

EDIT AGAIN: Just called Autozone in the next town over, they say they have several types, but no PST.

Can i just use a different form of Loctite?

Eric

PST = Pipe Sealer with Teflon

Don't bother calling them, just go look on the shelf; it will be there. They're the retarded ones (or more likely, just plain ignorant and lazy), not you.

Advance probably has it too, I forgot about them being around back East here.

If it's absolutely unavailable, use Permatex 300 (I know for a fact it's available at NAPA), it's brown gooey gunk.

THIS TOWN SUCKS. It's like no one here has ever put a set of heads on or something. Napa doesn't have either PST or 300, Pepboys only has 271 and 242, Autozone has 271 242, and some green crap. Nobody had permatex 300 either. Napa said they used to stock it but no on ever used it so they stopped carrying it.

I went down to my machine shop and talked with the guys there, and they didn't have any, but they said a new set of head bolts would have the sealant pre-applied. Is this true, cause if so i'm just gonna pick up a new set and be done with it.

Thanks for your help so far. It's getting to crunch time now, the heads should be coming UPS in about 3 hours...

271, 242, and 222 are plain anerobic thread lockers with poor sealant properties. You don't want that on head bolts.

Another name for the LocTite material is Pro-Lock. It is the same compound (also made by LocTite/Permatex) but is marketed through industrial and plumbing suppliers. Try your resources before throwing in the towel.

Oddly, LocTite is based in Connecticut...
