I'm keeping my camaro but I've purchased a new project car. It is in superb condition so i couldnt pass it up. Its a 90 mustang lx 5.0 coupe with the police interceptor package. i couldnt help it silver with 5spd. I was told this car has all *aluminum gt-40 heads along with many other performance package parts. Is anybody familiar with this type of car? It is extremely fast and runs mid 12's in the quarter.I was just curious to know if you guys knew anything info wise on this car. Just because ive got a new toy Im not gunna leave thirdgen. Ive still got one and you guys have been too good to me. thanks

That's awesome, but mid 12s? not stock I take it? wasn't sure if you meant the aluminum heads were stock or not.

I have one very similar well almost, 4cyl though, PM Nic on here, he's a Stang guy and can help you out.

lets hope he installed the GT40heads

bc they did not come on any mustang stock except the 93-95 cobra. And they were cast iron .. not aluminum.

Thats cool. I've always liked the Fox bodies, I'd get one if the deal was right. They're still too small, as cramped as a 4th gen f body.
If it runs mid 12s, it most likely has a good deal done to it, no where near stock I'd guess.

I'm paying 4,000 for the car.......the body is in perfect condition, its coming with two sets of rims,it has new gt lumbar support seats, hes also giving me a set of gt tail lights. This car has a rumble like no other. he has two flowmaster mufflers with turn downs and no pipe after. He also said he gets 15-20 mpg which I will also look foward to seeing.

the only thing that i think is going to be a problem is the owner put eibach sport springs on the car. the car finally settled at almost three inches lower,it looks nice and all but i wanted to but either 17 or 18 x9 inch cobra rims on the car. the car has 15 inch rims on it and its already almost tucking tire. i know i could figure in a much lower profile tire but im worried about the width......whats that skinniest tire that you can put on a 9 inch wide rim?with a /35 profile do you think it would work?

I'm glad to see most people's position has changed. Must be a recent thing. Does this mean I can start slinging my Cobra and SHO in here?

As for the '90... Make sure there are subframe connectors on the thing! At the rear, check where the mount is welded to the body on the passanger side, the weld there is known to snap when good power is applied w/o subframe connectors (readersonal experience). Check for what smog stuff has been removed, another fav thing to do in ford circles. Inspect the rear diff, esp the teeth as well as the crossmember for the tranny. Check the floor pans behind the front seats for damage, for some odd reason anything that kicks up usually hits there. Also behind the back seats rust has been known to form, esp on the t-top cars. As for twelves... check to see if everything is in the trunk, are there back seats, it's not entirely uncommon for a 12 sec car, but let's not kid ourselves, that's fast, maybe too fast? If you have a g-tech, bring it. Check out the headers and exhaust system. For 4 G's I'd say you are getting a good deal if it is as fast as this guy alleges. Most of the stuff you have to check is the same as any car that is set up for that speed. Also if it is really pulling twelves and he has slips, look for all the safety equip that has to be on there.

Now anyone know where I can get cheap parts for a '79 Vette?

Re: ok guys dont be mad at me

The "Police Interceptor" nameplate is technically only supposed to be used on crown vics. Mustang police package cars are known as "special service mustangs".

Owning an emergency vehicle has some perks, for instance I recently got an offer of a free dyno run just because the operator was curious what a police cruiser had under the hood.

Here's some links of intrest:

hehe, my Grand Prix whoops most of the rice rockets ***, and it is stock. Well rather it whoops the poser rice rocket that puts the giant coffee can on the back, a wing, and maybe rims. Looks nice sometimes but they still are short about 60 hp Now if they bother doing any work to the engine that is a different story. But since 98% of them don't it is rare when I can't beat one to the next light

My dad's mustang has the GT-40 heads on it. They are Ford Motorsport heads. He also has the cobra 5.0 liter intake on it, and its managed by the commander 950 ECU with a laptop in the cockpit. I say cockpit because its feels fast as a jet. He had some problems with the body flexing but sub-frames fixed that. his runs mid 12's too, and with very little invested. Stock 5-speed, 3.73 gearing, and those few bolt ons. No internal engine changes except cam. Nice cars, easy to go 12's in them.

heres the new news........Im paying $3500 for the car now.

Upon viewing the car It completely shut off and would not start. The guy only drives this car once a week so it was an easy problem to have recently missed. He was completely embarassed so heres where the good deal comes in. He is replacing the battery, starter, and alternator for that is where the problem is. It is warrantied so he will get them for free and he will install them himself. He also needs the money soon because he is purchasing a new townhome because he is getting married in january. So heres the rundown......for $3500 for the car He is replacing the starter, alternator, battery, and installing a centerforce clutch. The motor is extremely well kept and very clean.it already has the underdrive pulleys and the smog pump has been bypassed.it has a brand new *rack and pinion steering?<think thats the right thing its called.and new water pump.He said if everything goes right hell have the car to me on sunday because he needs that money from the car for the rest of the down payment for the house,.......the thing is an absolute beast..the sound of it is music to my ears(dual flows with turn downs and no pipe after) I cant wait to get it on the road.Im glad to hear how acceptive you guys are about my decision........*thanks*:hail:

anyways to finish.i think the rack and pinion is what it was called.... To make a long story short----im glad to hear you guys are supportive and i cant wait to get the car on the road, it is a complete beast(dual flows with no pipe after) It rattles the house when its started and suprisingly doesnt get too much backpressure to backfire with only the mufflers....ill keep you guys more informed.........~thanks you guys~:hail:

How are you sure that the problem is the alternator? If the car cranked and wouldn't start, it's not the alternator.

You're right. I did that before I bought my first car and it really saved me from buying a couple of screwed up ones.

Im sure you guys can help me out here.......it has the eibach sport springs on it......it finally settled at between 2-3 inches lower......the rims on it are only 15 inch rims and it just barely tucks tire. Id like to put 17 inch cobra rims on it......kinda worried that they wouldnt fit.....width wise it what im most worried about, all they make is a 9 inch wide cobra rim....

Buy that car!

Ditch those lower springs! - the car would look tougher at stock height with Centerlines or 5-stars in 15 or 16". A fast car and very low ride height is not a good match as you have messed up the suspension geometry. Change it back to stock height.

Don't be embarassed about buying a Mustang. I had a '91 GT and it was the most fun car I've had - compared to four 3rd gens and a 25th anniversary T/A!

5.0 Mustangs can run 12s all day long with only bolt-ons, no internal engine work. Back in '91, I ran with about 10 other Mustangs in my area and we all ran 12s and some were into the 11s.

Enjoy the new car, just don't forget the 3rd gen!

So far what i know that the car has performance wise.....is a cam, aluminum gt-40 heads,k&n,underdrive pulleys, smog pump has been bypassed, short throw shifter, some kind of t-5 racing trans with centerforce clutch, dual flowmaster mufflers,it has 3.08 gears with a posi rear-end..........What else should i go with for fairly cheap h.p.?Im replacing the spark plugs and spark wires....im going for 9mm wires but what about the spark plugs?what should i go with for the strongest street/strip bite?

Just get different springs. Order some from Saleen, they have a whole variety of used stuff, all of which is made my Eibach anyway.
