canfield heads?

any experience with these heads....I'm looking at crate motors. I have a $6000 budget to get the car back on the road in the spring. Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm thinking 383....

Hey IHI, hows it going....Ive been real buisy with work and all, not to mention we just moved into a new home. Havent had much time for the Camaro.
$6000 for the motor and Tranny...Ill have some $ left for the extras. Gonna do this thing right this time around. I pulled the 327, looking at having it built, but I cant get the hp # I'm looking for and still keep it streetable.
One motor I am looking at is a 383 440 hp @ 5750 RPM 465 ft. lbs torque 5200 RPM . It has Canfield aluminum heads... canfield cnc heads - 200 CC - 64 CC heads. Stage 1 port. Bowls blended...
Features - Bronze guides - screw in studs - comp cams matching value train - retainers spring and locks - 2.08/1.60 stainless valves. huge low end flow #s best street head in the world bar none
FUll roller rockers - race 7/16 stud - 1.6 ratio...

I guess no one has had any experience or knowledge they care to share about these heads.....not sure if that is good or bad

Come on guys a little help here , huh

here is some flow #
VALVE LIFT .100 .200 .300 .400 .500 .600 .700
Intake Port 71.7 144.9 206.4 252.4 288.0 301.7 306.1
Exhaust Port* 52.2 104.9 146.2 184.0 203.2 219.2 227.2
These are typical flow numbers at 28 inches of water measured on a SF 600 bench by an independent shop.
*Exhaust flow numbers are without a pipe

I remember when I did mine on my budget I too looked at the Canfield heads, but for the "other stuff" I could'nt swing it at the time, so I went with the Aerohead instead. I can't think of anyone that's running canfields, but the numbers are just as good as any of the "high dollar" heads, they just might not be as efficent. You keepin the 700r4 or stepping into something different? At least your using your noggin and goin bigger cubes as there is no replacement, that's what my original plans were but then scrambling for a new motor when I blew mine and only having 1 month to do everything kinda put me on the choppin block, but the lil 'ole 355 runs alright considering it's nothing special by any means.

after a little research, The #'s are pretty good, compared to others....I've yet to decide on the tranny. I have a 700r4 out of a 87 I bought after frying the last 2 84's. I also have a th350. Both would need going through.........or do I spend a few more $$ and go with a Pro-built 700r4.....Ive had the tranny in and out so many times now, I wanna make sure something "good" goes in this time.
I have some fella's up in Cresent, that are going to do the install for me....new wiring harness, motor and tranny, sfc's, $600 labor. Seems reasonable to me.
I'm going to go with long tube headers this time, I'm looking at dumping the exhaust out the side, I relize the 3" set-up I have now is as efficent, but I like the sound of duals.
So what dont you like about your 3:42 rear? Thats what I have also.....
I tell ya , there are way too many choices when it comes to building one of these things.......

The 3.42's are a good baseline gear for basically all purpose driving. I'm setting this car up for mainly a track car and very nice day street terror and in the 1/4 I'm missing out on about 1600rpm as I'm only crossing at 44-4500rpm. Punching numbers into my dddrag I could get into the 12's-where I wanna be anyway so I can race Super Pro class, I need to get rid of the 3500 stall and go with either a 4500 or a 5500 and then I'm gonna run 28" slicks next year instead of 26" like this year so I want to at least have a 4.11 out back, if I kept the 26"s I'd put 3.73 in instead.
$600 for them doing all that in a super deal providing they do everything correctly. I always get nervious taking anything of mine anywhere to get fixed.
