squeeling noise driving me nutts!!!

I have a weird squeeling noise coming form my font left wheel and maybe the right. It quits as soon as i touch the brakes! Wheel bearing?! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

The wear indicators on the brake pads are likley telling you that it's time to service the brakes before you trash the rotors and have to replace those, too.

I thought if it was the brakes it would only make the noise when the brakes where applied? The noise stops when i apply the brakes!

yeah, the "Wear Sensors" will only start squeeling with the the brakes applied.

Definatly check the wheel bearings, thats about a 10 minute check at most. After you drive a while, just feel said wheel....if it burns your hand it's the wheel bearing.

If you want to take the grease cap off and check it i'd expect to see burnt grease and scored bearings with the amount of noise you describe.

Yep, it's what Vader said.

I had this too, took off the wheel and looked at the one pad and all looked fine, forgot about the back pads to the rotor, that was the culprit, it was quite embarassing, I'd just apply the brakes slightly if there were people around, lol.

get new pads.

That is wrong, there is a metal tab, that when the pads wear too low contacts with the rotor and makes that noise, when the brakes are applied, the pad comes in contact then and the noise goes away.

Man, I wouldn't even question Vader or something so simple, well to him anyways.

Wheel bearings tend to make a clicking noise that is audible at low speeds somewhere that the noise can bounce off of something, like in an alley or beside a wall. Changing the brakes is a good time to replace the bearings if you feel like it. Checking the outer brake pads isn't a good way to check for wear, as in my experience the inner ones always wear first.

Guess I know that now, I just figured they would wear evenly. took me about 2 months or so to figure , hey, check the inside pads.
