bogs inder 2000 rpm

For some strange reason when I try to take off at under 2000 rpm my car will jump forward then bog down. I have to push to clutch back in and rev up the engine to get it to take off. What's wrong??

What is the normal idle speed? Vacuum at idle? What fuel system are you using?

It normally idles at about 1000 rpm, I don't know the idle vacuum, It is a carburated 305 (600cfm holley w/ vacuum secondaries) though the car was originally a TBI car so it still has the electric fuel pump if that matters.

maybe not getting enough fuel or getting too much?

whats your cam timing?
whats your spark timing?
whats your rear gear?
does it do it in all gears?
does it do it on the highway too?

more more more info!

almost sounds like its taking off then the secondaries are opening and causing the bog because of too much/little fuel. I would check that out first.

Sounds like a vac problem to me. You need to get a reading a idle (should be at least 19-20) guessing you cam is stock or close to it. I thought the electric pumps ran at 12 psi for TBI IIRC. If so this is WAY too much for a carbureted engine!!! Are you running a regulator? I would guess this would flood the bowls.

his engine wouldnt run at 12PSI with carb. the needles would blow off the seat and flood fuel into the intake. :nono:

The cam timing is stock, the spark timing is 14* initial I believe and 36* total (all in by 3000 rpm), it only does it when I take off in 1st gear because the lowest rpm I get when cruising is about 1800 rpm (1500 rpm and below it doesn't want to accelerate at all), the cam is stock, and I do have a fuel pressure regulator set at approx. 8 or 9 psi with a return line to the gas tank.

That fuel pressure is still fairly high. Most carbs like 4-5 PSIG, even Holleys.
