hes probably refering to the dash light that says shift and has the up arrow.. yes automatics came with them.. not sure what year.. my 89 rs has one.. doesnt work tho.. no computer anymore and i took all the bulbs out.. if you find the light annoying just take the bulb back out.. the lights pretty much worthless for an automatic anyway....
Cool! It isn't supposed to have a lamp. The instrument clusters are the same on all cars, manual or automatic. The autos don't get a lamp, but are still wired to the ALDL and ECM like the manuals.
You now have a lamp on your dash that tells you when the torque converter clutch is locked up. Too bad it says "SHIFT" instead of "TCC".

It's a "shift now for better fuel economy" lamp.
Took the annoying bulb out of mine long ago.

The instrument cluster is the same. The wiring is the same. On my '86, the SHIFT light socket still has the printed circuit traces, and the cluster is wired to the body harness the same as a manual trans car. Wiring to the socket is connected to the 'F' terminal at the ALDL and the corresponding ECM connection. This output is used for the SHIFT lamp on a manual car and for the TCC lockup relay on an automatic car. So installing a lamp in the socket should light the lamp any time the TCC is in lockup.
