Head gaskets good, but still runs bad

Hello again, in my last post I said that I thought the head gaskets might be blown on my 85 Camaro (with a carb'd LG4). Well today I got a chance to drop the car off in the auto shop at school. I didn't perform the leak down test my self (had my history and biology exams today). But I had one of my friends do it for me. He said that all the cylinder held air equally good. And that there wasn't any drastic differance between two adjasent(sp?) cylinders. It turns out that the radiator wasn't filled all the way. So I'm only burning a little oil (I don't know if thats a good thing or not, lol). On the way home the car still ran bad. If I give it alot of gas from a dead stop..it'll hesitate and then take off. I tried pulling the codes, but didn't get any (I'll try again to make sure I did it correctly). My auto shop teacher says that it seems to be running too rich. How can I correct this on the cc carb? I know I have a leak in the exaust where the passanger side manifold connects to the y-pipe, but that shouldn't make the car run this bad. I don't have any AIR stuff or a cat. And I have the AIR tubes from the manifolds removed and plugged off. Thanks for the help.

If the CC carb is running rich and no one fooled with any adjustments on it try replacing the O2 sensor. It may also be time to rebuild or replace the carb.

Right around $20 You'll need either an O2 sensor socket or a 7/8" boxend wrench to remove it and wait till the engine has cooled a bit, but not cold to try and remove it.

On a qjet, theres usually a cirrcular screw type cap on the left side looking from the fromnt that controlls rich lean. If that and the O2 sensor doesnt work, the feul filter probobly needs changing, thats a $3 fix, and only takes a few minutes, as its located on the carb.

have you done any trouble shooting, other than codes? eliminated anything? is the tune up good and all adjustments correct? that'd be the first thing i did was verify the tune up.

Got the o2 sensor replaced last night (even with the PB it was praticly welded in). Car does run alot better. But it still hesitates a little when I floor it, even if I'm moving.

ede: Yes I have done a tune up on it; filters, plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Plan on doing the timming too. The only mods that I know it has are, removed AIR system and removed A/C (did it last night).

Ok, just brought the car home from the shop (thats where I left it last night). It ran like crap. When I was going down the back roads, trying to accelerate from 10mph to 25mph was extremly hard. It's like the motor was only running on 4 cylinders. Once I got to around 30 it pulled alot harder. Durning the 10-25mph it would stumble alot. Any one have any ideas on what I could be? A friend said it could be the fuel pump, or ecm..but I'm not getting any code from the ecm. Thanks again.

If the feul filter is clogged, It wouldnt show up on the computer. Seriously, go Pep boys or something and pick up a $3 feul filter, and change them. A lot of the time the feul filter is the problem when it seems like the pump, and waste $80 replacing it. Its located in the feul inlet on the carb, you just unscrew the pipe sticking out and the filter is right there.

honerablefroggy: I have replaced the fuel filter..it still runs bad. Earlier today I noticed the secondaries don't open. I know they won't open until the choke is open, but even with the choke open they will not open. The linkage isn't getting cought up, but the part of the vacum actuator(sp?) is. With the rod all the way out it still won't open the secondaries. Shouldn't the rod be in the actuator until the vacum drops? Cause mines all the way out...I can push it in, but it just goes right back out. Thanks.
