LPE cam or other?

hey guys,

im getting my engine worked over as i type this (bored .03 over and decked.(89 TPI L98 350 roller).

here is my parts i have and will be using.
Edelbrock proformer alum heads( 60cc with 2.02 valves )
SLP 1 3/4" jethot coated headers/Edelbrock catback no cat
I will port and gasket match my plennum and runners(stock)
airfiol
new 2400 stall torque conv.
crane HI-6 ignition
everything to burn my chips(still reading and learning)

All of this is new and going on my rebuild. My question is ,this will be a daily driver with an est 9.8:1 compression. I was told the best cam for my setup would be the LPE 211 cam, it seems kind of large to me for a daily driver do yall think the 216 would be a better choice I have no experience with these cams so any help would be appreciated.

I dont plan on running NOS or boost!!

Anyone with DD2000 care to run this setup for me?

HERE ARE THE SPECS ON BOTH CAMS

LPE74211 211/219 .530/.560 (with 1.6 rockers) 112 CL

LPE74216 211/219 .493/.502(with 1.6 rockers) 112 CL

I was also looking at the hotcam it is much cheaper what would be best?

It sounds like you already have your mind made up. The 211, 219, hot, and 218-224 extreme energy cams would all be good choices for you.

I think the 216 is for stock springs. Get some bigger runners also.

actually i havent made up my mind yet thats the problem .

hotcam would be cheapest
LPE 211 probably the most agressive.

i just need to be confident the 211 will be street friendy thats all.

for a 5 or 10 HP difference i would go with the hotcam over the LPE 211 but i dont know the power dif between the 2 ,i guess i should go out and buy DD2000 so i can check em out.

I know there are many in here running the Hotcam any feed back?

Why would you question the streetability of the 211 when the hot cam has more duration?

Ok my bad, I didnt realize the hotcam had more lift im having trouble researching this with the search not working. What is the hotcam lift with 1.6 rockers?

I didnt think it was more than .530/.560 , wait thats lift you said duration as you can see im not real experienced with cams could you explain to me what you are talking about(dumb it down for me if you can)

I just want to do this rite the first time. Runners and intake will come a little later cause its an easy swap and im pushing my budget as it is.

Thanks

Make it easy on yourself. Find out what your heads flow, and pick the cam based on your head flow and intended use of the car. What can the springs on your heads handle lift-wise? What springs are they, and what is the installed height and coil bind of the springs? The 211 with 1.6 rockers is .533-.560 which might be too much for your springs, but find out to be sure.

I'd go with the LPE 211. I have the LPE 219 and it is excellent in a daily driver, so the 211 will be even more tame. My car drives pretty close to stock.

The info on the heads as per Scroggin Dicky catalog are
flow data : (Edelbrock Performer Centerbolt heads)
.300" -------177----------124
.400----------217----------147
.500----------229----------166

springs are 1.45" Dia
max lift of .575"

On Chevyhighperformance web site they flowed at
.500-----------234----------177

dont know the coil bind on the springs.(heads are new and came assembled)

I am looking for a cam that will complement a TPI setup(i know i will die out at about 5000RPMs)

I have a work beater to drive to work and hunting and stuff but i do drive my bird almost everyday. So I do need it street friendly.
but i do want it to run as good as possible.

Sorry for dragging this on but i want this done correctly.and i dont understand cam specs very well (duration/LSA to be exact)

Thanks

Get the 211. It is more aggressive than the hot cam lobe-wise, and should be a little tamer for your needs. I ran the 219 in a 383, and it kind of reminded me of the stock cam with a little more chop to the idle, but was still very tame.
