Heating works only on high/defroster mode!

The heating/air works only in defroster mode. The defroster blows hot air when the engine is heated enough. It'll also blow cold air when the temp selector is on the cold side. Suggestions anyone before the dash is removed. Please!

Thanks,
Brandon

check for a broken/disconnected vacuum hose, the default setting without vacuum is defrost. there is an accumulator mounted on the firewall just above the brake booster, that is where most of the hoses come off of.

No vacuum coming to the selector switch... maybe somebody "cleaned up" under the hood a little too enthusiastically, or the vacuum selector itself is bad.

Vac selector was the culprit on my 85.

Where's the vac selector located?

Only thing I found was this black tube looking thing with one wire and a small hose coming out of the same end. The wire is connected to the underside of the hood. The hose is cut. Is this what you're talking about?
