Idling with a/c on
I am having some trouble with my a/c. It works fine at speed and blows nice and cold. However, when I sit at idle the rpm's surge. If I turn the a/c off, the idle rpm's are fine.
Anybody have a similar problem? Is there and air conditioning idle control?
Thanks.
Bill

is the compressor cycling on and off? That will cause an rpm surge because of the load/no load on the belt line when the compressor starts and stops.

WOW! This was an old thread that got reopened.
A full tune up smoothed out the rough idle and surging a little bit but it still does it. Still don't know why. Compressor is not noisy and the air is ice cold. In fact it is so cold that while driving to work the other day at about 1:00pm I had to turn the air down. It was about 107* outside at the time.

OK Hopefully I have your solution. Fixed mine!!!
I just needed to spray carb cleaner into the TB and IAC hole.
Did it while running and reving the engine and also not running to make sure liquid running out of TB was clear. Have paper towels handy.
Took her out for a drive w/ AC on and no more surging.
Very smooth idle.
Thank goodness!!!!
Hope this helps.
