Will my 700R-4 last...

Or more clearer how long? I am dropping a 350 with ZZ4 heads, ZZ4 cam, and Edelbrock headers, plus the mods already on the car. How will my 700-R4 hold up to the motor? The tranny has 70,000 miles on it and so far I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. That doesn't always mean it will last though. With this motor going in it has got me a little worried that my tranny will be gone soon after. What is the life expectancy of my tranny? How much do you guys think I could beat on it. I know I am going to be driving conservatively most of the time due to gas but I want to be able to hit on it once in awhile too. I asked this question in the tranny board but recieved no answer to my question so hopefully people can ease my worries here. Thanks

This is probably better on the tranny board, but oh well.

I have my 350 in front of my 700, which I havent rebuilt. It shifts a little soft, but nothing out of the ordinary for a tranny with 147,000 miles. It hasnt died yet, but I am saving up for a rebuild soon, as its inevitable. I blew the tranny on my camaro over a year ago, and that thing would shift terribly for a year before it blew. And I towed with it. When that thing blew it scared the crap out of me. Sounded like someone shot a gun off under my console. Lost 4th gear.

How long it lasts mostly depends on how you treat it. If you drive it easy most of the time and keep it full of trans fluid it should last for quite awhile. On the other hand if you run it hard all the time it won't last especially after some hard launches with slicks.

Yea I tried this on the tranny board but the only answer I got told me to ask elsewhere. I don't plan to beat on this tranny like a red headed stepchild. The car is my daily driver. I just heard from a few people that my tranny will not last long with the powerful motor. I just wanted to see if that was true. I mean I want to have fun once in awhile with it but I don't need another huge expense so soon. So you guys are saying the transmission should be fine then? Thank you very much for the responses.

once you get the 350 in

Let's see how it is shifting, It was hard to tell with the 305 having no power and that exhaust it was way loud with 70k miles on the trans does not mean it's going to break soon. You will probably be able to put your foot in it. But all the time yeah probably end up blowing it out.

Thanks Branden. I completely forgot to ask you I think we will need to set back the TV cable a little though because I really don't want things going bad in the tranny. And if you thought it was loud with the 305 just wait until the 350

We can always readjust the tv cable, as long as it shifts properly, Mine shifts firmer hitting 3rd gear other than 2nd but 2nd is pretty firm also, id like to firm up 4th probably will need a Sonnax servo and another rebuild. Probably just get a BowTie over drives 700r4 next time, and have Don put the Sonnax servo in. Im sure your trans will make it till you save to get another. You saved pretty fast to get the engine so guess you could do the same with the trans. Sell your trans for a few bucks and think about getting a Bow Tie over drives also.
