Aren't 245/50-16 stock? If you go 60 series you'd have to make changes for an accurate speedometer and odometer.

I realize this bit the 60 series is what was on the car when I bought it. However I don't know if the appropriate changes were made. Also, how would going with the 60 series over the 50 series affect the performance of the car? I like the taller tire just for the extra ground clearance. any more comments, suggestions? Drive on........

Put on the 245/50R16s. They are the correct size.

The 60 series tires will most likely rub at full steering lock,, you will hate this in the future if the tire rubs.

you could go with 255/50/16 in back to get more rubber on the ground.....with 245/50/16 in front so you dont rub.....just my.02cents or 235/55/16 all around that will give you some of that clearence you were askin for and it will be lower than what u have

The previous owner probably put the 60 series tyres on it to save money. Most 50 series tyres are considered "performance" oriented. AKA more expensive. I would run the 245/50-16s all around.

A good tyre for the money is a BFG Comp T/A. I had Bridgestone Potenza RE-730 Z-rated rubber in the same size before I upsized to 17s. THey had great wet and dry traction and I abused them for about 8000 miles and they still had lots left in them. Just my opinion. Good luck.

Is there any problem with the 245's rubbing up front? I thought about going with the 225's up there and 245's in the rear. keep the suggestions coming!! Drive on.............

Even with the stock 245/50s, you'll probably see some rubbing on the inner fenderwell up front. This is not something that has been a problem for me though. I never feel it or hear it, but can see where they rub. I also like to keep the same size all around.

if u want to keep the same hight for all the tires u could just use the 10 / 5 rule for every ten u go up in width u go down 5 in hight that way u could have super wide tires in the back and not so wide tires up front and not have to worry about ride hight alittle trick i picked up from being a tire monkey

i would say go for the 50 series tire as that's what belongs on it. if your going for ground clearance, you bought the wrong car.

You can fit 295/50-15s in the back..

Go with the 245/50s all around.

I just put on 255/50-16 on all 4. The fronts rub slightly when reversing and turning the wheel to the right. No problems with the rear. I would go with 245/50-16 on the fronts next time. Skip the 60 series - the better handling will compensate for any decrease in ride hieght.

Whats with the whole "ride height" thing? After all it is a camaro or firebird, you know a sports car!! I think the 50s are required!!

Thanks for all the comments guys. The only reason I talked about ride height is because I can't keep mud flaps on the car now with the 60 series tire on the car. It'll get even worse woth the 50's, but I guess the car looks better without them anyways . I think I'm gonna go with the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDWS. Their $114.95 per tire. According to tire rack.com the Bridgestone Potenza 950 is the best tire in class and their only an extra $8.00 per tire. Thing is that I need t spend $1,000.00 with Summit so I can be entered into the Super Series and hopefully win some big bucks with my dragster. Summit doesn't carry Bridgestone, so I'l compromise. Thanks again guys. Drive on.............

91_350TPI,
I don't understand the comment about the mud flaps. They won't fit, or you just don't want them on there?

SuperTrans,
Can you explain that tip a little more? I'm not getting it to work out right using my math.

MikeS

Car: currently thirdgenless!!!
I have 245/50-16 Dunlop 5000's on my '92 Camaro and 255/50-16 on my '87 Trans Am. The Trans Am has Kuhmo's in the back and Falkens in the front. Very slight rubbing in the front on the Trans Am. Not a problem though. Out of the 3 tires I think I like the Falkens the best. I have had them in the past and had good luck with them. If money were no object, I would go with the Bridgestone S03 Pole Positions. But I am not sure they even make them in a 16 inch rim.

id stick with the 245 50 16s, they seem to look the best on the third gen wheels and ur not gonna get much more of a tire patch with a 255 50 16s

I'm quite partial to my 245/50/16 size tires...

I've had no issues with rubbing on the front at all considering these are stock size for the car

Mike S: It's not that I don't want the mud flaps. However every time I pull into my drive way one of them gets ripped off the car. Like I said though, the car looks beter without them anyways. Drive on............
