mine was rusty, i just grabbed it with a pair of pliers and turned it like there was no tomorrow and off it came. just dont bounce up and down and yank and stuff, you dont wanna break the lines. also be careful when you get it off, gotta wear safety goggles! you dont want gas in your eyes. yeah so really no trick, just gorilla it off.

Use a backup wrench, and make sure it's a "line wrench" or "flare nut wrench". These are a whole lot less likely to round off fittings in the event of a seized fuel filter.

And, yes, do wear eye protection. Gas seems to burn a little more these days than it did just a few years ago.

Bottled, don't tell him that. Kinda like smoking a cigarette in a fireworks factory,...........BOOOOOM!!!!!!
But seriously though,.....I noticed somthing on mine when I changed mine about a year ago. Actually two things. First off, I noticed that the filter is in a different location on my 92 than where it was located on my 90. When did they change the location? 91? Just curious. Second, When I got the filter off,...it poured gas like crazy. I thought that maybe when the lines had cleared that it would stop running. But it didn't. I filled a 5 gallon jug up before I figured out it wasn't gonna stop. It didn't do that on my 90 model. It quit running after a few minutes. Changing a fuel filter isn't for the faint at heart. It gives you the feeling of helplessness when your covered with gas, and you realize how "Explosive" you really are at that moment.

I would use some penetrating oil on the filter fittings. Can't believe no one mentioned that. Also using never cease on the threads upon reinstallation will eliminate this problem in the future. Good luck

the best penetrating (sp?) liquid i have found yet is called "mystic metal mover" this stuff works wonders!!!! if you need to break a nut loose or even drill a hole this stuff works great!

when i changed my fuel filter in my camaro it leaked a little bit but it was also a pain to get off!

HOW do i get my FUEL filter off?
Give it the 1-900-number for "Fuel Filter Fone Sex Hotties", Or buy the "Fuel Filters Gone Wild!" video, than give it some privacy for about ten minutes. While it's on the phone or freeze-framing the video, soak it at both ends with penetrating oil. It will appreciate the lubrication.

Blaster Formula PB is good, but even plain old WD-40 will work if you give it engough time.

You may actually have to soak it for a day or more, applying penetrant often enough to keep it wet.

When you install the new one, apply antiseize compound to the threads on both flare nuts.

As others have mentioned, use a flare nut wrench on the fittings and backup wrench on the hex of the filter body fitting.
