454 or something else?

i'm looking around for a new engine and basically just want to start with a block and buy the parts as i get the money. I was thinking a 350 so i could make some power, but not a whole lot, but lately i've been wondering if i should get a 454 and get a lot of power out of it. my car will be a showcar only so i'm not worried about gas mileage. so should i get a 454 or get the traditional 350? and when i get either, what parts should i get to make some power?

Try the search button! There are lots who have built 350 & 454 engines. Use the search and go from there.

If it's a show car, nothing shouts "I spent a lot of money" like a well detailed and chromed BBC.

I see a small block under the hood of a show car and I just think, yep just another SBC, regardless of how much has gone into the engine.

Why stop at a 454? Go big and drop in a 540. It's the same external size.

Well put! As he said...don't do another 350. A big block would defintely get my attention at a show.

i thought i remember someone on these boards saying that a 502 barely fit? so could i get a 454, from perhaps a neighbor, and just clean it and it'll be fine as in running?

Anything bigger than a 540 is a tall deck engine. It will fit but you'll have to do modifications for the taller cylinders. In a street car that wants to keep things like wipers and heater/ac, it might not be worth it.
