swap from 283 to 350
i want to swap out my 283 for a 350, just the short block and cam maybe. i was wondering how much of a gain i might get. the 283 is pretty fast, it will push you into the seat when you step on it going 50mph. its about around 250-300hp and 300trq. what should i see with a 350 with a bigger cam for about the same rpm range?

The 350 will have alot more neck snapping torque than the 283 because the stroke is almost 1/2" longer, but probably won't have as much top end as the 283 because of the long stroke, which is rev limiting.
You could always to halfway though (maybe) and put the 283 crank (3") and drop that in the 350 block to make a 302. But it may not work, i'm not sure.

You will gain alot because you have a much better breating engine with bigger bore and 124% more engine.

your 283 ...figured with vortec heads..peak 274hp /233 torque torque peaks at 5500 rpm Hp at 7000rpm.....
same parts in a 350...291hp-6000rpm/273t-5000rpm
if I run my setup through dd200 and swap the 331 for a 355 but use all the same parts...I gain 1 hp..and about 10fpt...interesting huh....

Interesting? Not really, just typical. Desktop dyno isn't very accurate, it's just a broad estimate. Too many people take their little graphs the program makes and claim that they're real or accurate. That just leads to dissapointment. With the right cam file, head flow data, and everything else correct, it overestimated my 305 by about 50 horsepower.

283 has the small journals and that crank would not fit into a 350 with medium journals.
Just a little food for thought...
