Try manually shifting it no higher than 5500 RPM. Your TPI motor is not pulling above 5500, therefore you are wasting your quarter mile time shifting so high.

Well first off, if you're drag racing u shouldn't be in overdrive. overdrive is made for cruising. start of in first and continue through the gears until you reach overdrive. But shift at 5500 max rpms. If ur times get no better than something else is seriously wrong.

Uhh, WRONG! I know cause I shift mine manually at the track and even my wimpy little LO3 runs a 16.5@89mph.

But then again I havn't had an automatic in 10 years so I could be wrong about that.

As far as I know, the Throttle Valve cable doesn't affect the shift point if you shift manually. My tranny shifts at whatever RPM I decide if I shift it manually.

If his transmission shifts late then it won't help. Manually shifting is only useful for holding it in gear later than it would shift on its own.

Could be a bad TV cable, or out of adjustment, but probably not. The TV cable will automatically adjust itself if it is too tight. So, if your shifts were happening too early, then I would say it's the TV cable, but since the shifts are late, then I would look elsewhere, although I would still make sure it was operating properly. I would look into the transmission itself. Check your fluid level. It could also be the governor within the transmission. If the governor weights are stuck, it will shift much later than it was designed to. You may want to take it to a transmission shop and ask them for advise. Most will do a free road test. Good luck.

Some times you tend to over look the simple things. Have you check your trans fluid lately? Pull the dip stick and see if it smells burnt or if there is enuff there.
