Funtional Cowl Induction Pictures?
Does anyone have any pictures of how the cowl induction should look when your looking inside under the hood? Is there suppose to be something attached to the air filter?

I saw a chevy hi-perf that had a K&N flat panel filter setup to mount directly on the carb,, but im not sure how it was done..
it was one of those sitelleo race cars

I've looked, but I haven't found any kits yet to seal the air cleaner to the hood. Probably because it was never a factory option. I imagine something could be fabricated using parts from a 69 cowl induction...would be a lot of work though, to do it right. And those repro parts aren't cheap, either.

My car had an air cleaner base with a foam ring around it to seal against the hood when I got it. No idea where it came from though. If you ignore the dust and dirt in the picture below you can see it.

you guys aren't understanding cowl induction, the last thing you want is for the carb/air cleaner to be sealed against the hood. If it's sealed, you get absolutely no air into the engine whatsoever. There are arguments about exactly how it works, but what they essentiall boil down to are two things. When at speed, the spot at the base of the windsheild is a low pressure zone, that low pressure is a vaccuum. It draws hot air out of the engine compartment and also draws cool air into the engine compartment from the bottom and front of the car to the top of the engine bay in the cowl part of the hood, feeding it directly to the engine.
You only want your air filter sealed against the hood if you have a ram air type setup. The K&N Airstream lid on that open element air filter on the 1st gen simply increases filtering area, it has nothing to do witht he cowl. the bottom of a cowl hood should be open kind of like __|^|__ if that makes any sense.

There's no such thing as backyard aerodynamics. Just because it LOOKS like that is what would happen, that IS NOT what happens.

A number of different cars with factory cowl induction had airboxes sealed against the hood. Absolutely no air into the engine? Better keep that quiet, the owners of those cars might be upset when they discover their cars don't run.

Apeiron is right. today when i was comming home from work (it rained a bit today) i was noticing the water that was on my hood rollin up the hood and then being sucked into the cowl where my open elment K&n 14x4 is. so i think it sucks more air at higher speeds instead of blowing it out.

At speed, the air pressure builds at the base of the windshield. HITHERE cowl hood is open there, obviously. The air cleaner IS sealed to the underside of the hood, such that the intake only draws air in from the underside of the cowl, from the base of the windshield. No hot air from inside the engine compartment is drawn into the intake, and HITHERE cowl hood DOES NOT evacuate hot air from the eingine compartment.
Other than that....is anybody else getting HITHERE HITHERE message mixed all into their posts? lol
